Q: why does my front right caliper get stuck everytime i drive it?
everytime i need to go anywhere i need to take out the air from the front caliper so i can drive it. what can i do to keep my front caliper from geting stuck
my truck is a 95 gmc sonoma and i did change the caliper already
A: my car had that same problem
it turned out to be the rubber line between the chassis and the caliper
was collapsing and kept the pressure to the piston
bleeding the brakes wasn’t removing air just relieving the pressure
if you need to replace one rubber line , then replace them all
they’re all the same age
Q: What to do if my caliper piston got stuck?
I tried to replace my rear break pads at my 2004 Infiniti FX35 as dealer said whoever installed them before forgot about shim kit.
I replaced rear right but caliper piston on rear left got stuck and I cannot push it back to fit new pads. I tried like everything for last 3 hours. Any recommendation?
A: Are you sure it was started in straight? It is sometimes not easy to get them in straight and they will bind. If this is the case, remove it and start over. Some calipers (very few) actually have to be screwed in, although you will see no threads. These usually have a slot in the face of them to facilitate a large screw-driver type tool.
Good luck
Q: Why my vehicle rear caliper piston stuck after I washed my car and parked it overnight?
After I washed my car and parked it overnight. The next morning, when I release the parking brake. I heard “tat” sound from the rear brake. It seems to be the caliper piston was not return. Why it only happen after I wash my car and parked it overnight?
Can someone elighten me in this problem?
A: If the brakes were hot from use before you washed it, The cold water may have warped the piston causing it to stick. It also could be corrosion causing it to stick. Do NOT get grease or oil anywhere near brake parts. The oil will deteriorate the flex brake lines and any other rubber seals. Just use DOT approved brake fluid. If the caliper is sticking, it is probably best just to replace it. They are usually not that much money depending on the vehicle.
Another thought. How cold is it where you are living right now?
If it is below freezing, the park brake cable may be iced up.
Q: The piston on my brake caliper is stuck in the out position and impossible to compress.?
It is wedged up against the rotor and will not compress back into the cylinder even when prying a screwdriver in between and opening the bleeder valve. If I remove the caliper is it safe to vise the piston back in? Have I done permanent damage by extending the piston too far out? Please help.
A: When it’s stuck like that it’s usually due to a failure. You can try using a C Clamp to force it back but there’s no guarantee it’ll go or work afterwards. If it does go back it may stick again or not come back out. Probably best off getting a new caliper. They’re not terribly expensive, unless you’re driving foreign iron, that is.
Q: How do I get out a break pad that is stuck between the rotor and the caliper?
My friend’s car was squealing, I offered to help thinking it was an easy brakepad change… well it turns out that one of the pads came off and was stuck between the rotor and the caliper, he has a 96 honda passport??? I’m not allowed to hammer it out!.. lol.. what are my other options…?? =D
I already took the caliper off…
well part of it…there’s an extra clamp… where… the actual pad is stuck…
is it safe for me to take that off… or should i just take it to a mechanic?
A: prybar
Q: how do I remove a stuck piston from a motorcycle caliper?
Hello :0)
How do I remove a stuck piston from a motorcycle calliper? I managed to remove one however the other one is stuck fast! Any help is appreciated as its my only form of transport!! :0(
Hi I have removed the pads, however I wish to clean the pistons and remove any dust and replace the seals and dust seals however I have removed one piston however cannot remove the other :0( hope this helps you answer! :0)
A: The piston you removed – put it back in.
Install the brake pads and caliper.
Bleed the brakes .
When you get the pressure back – remove the brake pad
on the stuck piston side – leave the other pad installed.
Figure a way to keep the caliper from moving when you pump the brake lever.
You might be strong enough to hold the caliper if the piston isn’t to stuck.
OR roll the front wheel up to a wall and have someone lean against the wheel into the wall.
OR Clamp the caliper to the disc.
OR remove the caliper from the bike – remove the remaining brake pad and clamp the good piston to the caliper to prevent it from coming out.
Before installing the new seals – scrape all of the junk inside of the seal groove with a pick – get every thing out!
I was giving ideas for a 2 piston caliper.
If it’s a single piston caliper, you removed the left and the right is stuck – re-install the piston, bleed the brakes, leave the free piston’s caliper attached to the bike with brake pads installed, remove the stuck piston’s caliper and pump the brake lever.
That’s why I always ask people to give their bike’s year, make, engine size and model #
Most questions are model specific.
Q: stuck caliper banjo bolt?
Brake Caliper banjo bolt is stuck on my 96 Jeep rand Cherokee
Have checked every website- no one has any info for if the bolt is stuck. The piston has extended and now needs replaced I need to get the bolt out to take it to auto zone and get discount on new one- and of course to finish the job. Where would I find liquid wrench?
A: Usually you need to use liquid wrench or a torch if it is seriously stuck but to learn more about it, go to the “ehow” websites and watch a video about the calipers and banjo bolts.

Q: How do i compress my front brake caliper when its stuck extend all the way out?
2000 gmc 1 ton savanna van
tryed clamp still nothing
A: if you have already used a c clamp and the caliper still will not go in you want to try some spray lube to see if it will break the piston free if not you may need a new on or even used that may be cheaper
Q: my 2 screws on my caliper are stuck there and dont want to move?
what should i do, get a new caliper i do t knwo? 2000 tiburon
its besscause i want to change my brake pads in the rear of my car
A: breaker bar and socket and a 2′ piece of pipe that will fit over the end of the breaker bar for extra leverage, it should break the bolts loose.
Q: Stuck brake caliper on an eagle milano 50!?
Currently, the brake calipers on the front brake assembly are stuck and will not open wide enough to allow the brake disc to slide into it. How do I open the calipers wide enough to fit the wheel in?
Thanks for the advice, mate. What’s the bleeder valve look like?
A: open the bleader valve on the calliper…lol
Q: Any suggestions on how to get a stuck cylinder out of a brake caliper on an 83 Honda Goldwing.?
I have bled the brakes and pumped them and only got one out. Is there a tool I could get maybe or some other trick to try?
A: air will get it out, but dont even try to put your hand in front of it, itll shoot out with enough force to break your hand.
Q: Did a stuck caliper do any damage on the way home after a brake job?
I just brought my truck home from the shop after having the front brake pads replaced. When I was about halfway home, I noticed some resistance and smoke, so I’m sure it’s a stuck caliper (or two). There was a lot of smoke when I pulled off the highway. I called the shop and they promised to fix it first thing Monday morning. They’re closed for the weekend. What should I ask them to do to make it right? Did it ruin the brake pads? Damage the rotors? Anything else?
A: Overheating a rotor can cause it to warp. The car will shimmy when the brakes are applied. A stuck caliper and smoke from all that friction heat can make that risk. The pads will be worn a little more than normal. They are made to tolerate very high heat. You might be lucky if they can unstick the caliper and there not be any problem, but have them test drive it before you let them off the hook. If your car shimmys, they owe you a new rotor. It’s not that likely more than one brake was stuck.
Q: is it dangerous to drive with a sticking caliper?
i have been having many problems with my front left tire for a while now. I was supposed to my car fixed in september but i had to let someone borrow my money which i will be getting next week. i think its the caliper sticking cuase my tire over heats and everything. i have been driving like this for a the past few months. but while im driving the caliper lets up at some point. my car has taken a turn for the worst! the calliper wont even let up while im driving and its only on one tire. I can hear it grinding. Is it to dangerous drive right now? meaning will my caliper and router and all that good stuff pop off while im driving???? help plzz!
A: The longer you drive it the more expense it will be to fix. You need to replace the rotor and caliper and disc pads. If it’s the front you need to replace both sides. If it is the rear you’ll need to do both sides. I’m surprized it hasn’t totally locked up on you. Get it fixed as soon as possible before it becomes really dangerous.
Q: Front right brake caliper stuck on 2002 Chevy S-10.?
My front right disc brake caliper is stuck and won’t release on my 2002 s10. I think its probably my brake caliper and piston, but didn’t know if my brake line may be bad. Is this a typical problem on S-10’s? If so what is likely to be wrong with it?
A: Change both front brake lines and new or rebuilt front calipers. Flush all the brake fluid out until is runs clean. This will solve the problem.
Q: how to fix a stuck caliper?
so now I know it’s stuck, what needs to be done or how is it fixed
A: Replace it. They’re cheap, easy and will save you a lot of grief.
