Find all the information you need about civic vs accord.Your Number One Source for Automotive Discussion – CarForums.net

Q: civic vs. accord which would win if their both stock?
92 civic hatch. vtec si (standard) vs. an 07 accord 3.0 v6 (automatic) which would win in a race if their both stock

A: I’d put my money on the Accord.

Q: Civic vs Accord?
Would you get a civic ex or an accord lx. Why?

A: They are two different classes of cars in size, so it all depends on what youd use it for.

Personally, id go for the civic. The civic boasts a sporty drive, and roomy interior, roomy enough to comfortable seat four, but not as roomy as the accord. It has better gas milage, and when driving it, it has less body roll. The biggest thing would probably be the price difference, since the civic is alot cheaper

Q: Civic Vs. Accord Vs. Camry Vs. Corolla. Which would anyone recommend between the 4?

A: I love my honda civic hybrid .. they’re cute and they’re good on gas .. espically with the way gas is going up .. lol .. but yea i love my honda civic hybrid ..

Q: Should I get a midsize car or a compact? Honda accord vs civic?
I dont really care which one is “cooler” or”stylish”. I just need to know which one is the smartest choice in terms of reliability or safety etc…..i am just stuck that a midsize car is better just because of its size..

A: I have both: a 2001 Accord Ex V6 and a 2004 Civic LX. The Civic is a much better choice when it comes to mileage, style and price. I get 30 Hwy 34 City. The accord, unless you get the lower models: the V4 engines, the civic is a nice car.

Q: What is the size stats on the 1989 Honda Accord vs 2006 Honda Civic? The New Civic seems just as big.?

A: Dimensions for
I can’t go back to 1989 but I do have the info on the 1990 which I belive was identical. You are right in that the new Civic is almost as big. The new Civic is about 8 inchhes shorter but it is 1″ wider and 2″ higher. They are very comprable in size.

here’s the specs from the service manuals

1990 Accord–2 and 4 door:
overall length 184.8 inches (4695 mm)
width 67.9 inches (1725 mm)
height 54.7 inches (1390 mm)

2006 Civic 4-door
Overall length 176.7
Width 69.0
Height 56.5

hope that helps

Q: 08 Honda Accord Coupe vs Honda Civic Si vs Mini Coop S?
I’ve finally broke it down to these 3 cars and i cant really choose between them too hard to choose : /

A: What do you want in a car? Is it for daily driving? Does handling matter more or comfort?

I sat in the new accord coupe the other day…it’s pretty nice. If you want a daily driver that can take you to work and back in sporty comfort, get the accord.

If you’re looking for something more sporty and value better handling characteristics, go for the lighter vehicles, the civic or mini.

If maintenance costs are an issue, go for the civic.

Can’t say too much about the mini since I have no personal experience with them.

Edit: BTW, if you were planning on getting a V6 engine for the accord, it’s a SOHC. The four cylinder engines for the accord coupe and civic si are DOHC. In case that means anything to you.

Q: Honda Civic coupe 2008 vs Honda Accord coupe 2008?
The Civic is cheaper so I figured with the extra money I’d use it to fix it up, However the accord seems bigger….Which one would be better??

A: the civic is a nice car with some power but if your looking for a car that is durable and luxurious then get the accord in my opinion get the accord

Q: Honda civic/accord (2010) vs Acura tsx (2008)?
Cons/Pros

A: You also should compare car insurance quotes for cars before buying one, for example here – carquotes.sinfree.net

Q: Honda Accord 08 vs 99 Civic?
The civic has a b16 and a intake.
vs
stock honda accord 2008 (4 door.sedan NOT coupe)

A: You also should compare car insurance quotes for cars before buying one, for example here – carquotes.fateback.com

Q: Honda Accord V6 vs. Civic Si?
Hi,
I’m almost 17 and I’ve been driving around for quite some time now in an older Honda and I’ve been looking to upgrade to either a Civic Si or a Honda Accord Coupe.
Although I’m mesmerized by the Civic Si, I think it may be lacking a little bit in power and my parents are concerned with its size so they suggested the Accord Coupe.
As much as I like the stylings of the Accord, I think the base 2.4L engine is pretty underpowered and I think the 3.5L V6 is much more of a fun car.
However, the decision isn’t so much up to me as it is up to my parents and I don’t they’re both really conservative people who don’t really find cars to be fun or useful beyond the concept of transportation.

Basically, I want to know how to convince my parents that the V6 Accord Coupe is a better car than the standard 2.4L Coupe although it’s way more expensive.

A: horsepower is what you brag about, torque is what you feel. a civic does not have torque. accord on the other hand has small gobs of it. whoever said the v6 engine is crap, import v6s are made for speed and hauling ass, they compete with our v8s, most often we got a dogfight.

accord has much more respect than the slowly civic, both of them will last practically forever, both are good on gas, despite the accord will be hard on gas compared to the civic. i drove a 4 cyl accord it was a fun drive despite me not owning it.

if its up to your parents, they really aint no way for you to win. save your own dough and maybe do a motor swap. i know parents.. they want your first car to be a slow family car.

Q: Honda accord vs Honda civic project car?
The car will be a five speed v tek engine upgrade I plan of doing as of now are intake exhaust headers ecu and maybe a turbo but if there any upgrades you recomend post them aswell as the car year and model

A: If you have a V-Tec Car, just get your self a V-Tech Controller, go for Apexi or Grredy only. Get the xast from the front of the car to the end 3 or 3.5inch. try not to go in for the turbo as you will have to get the pistons changes for better performance or otherwise the car will Lag big time. change the Air Filter for better air intake, there is lot you can do for speed, let me know if you need any further help.
check this link: http://i147.photobucket.com/albums/r300/RockCrawlOutlet/Vafc.jpg

Q: I am thinking about buying a hybrid civic non navigation vs my 05 accord 2 door 4-cyl is this a good move?
i have already vs the gas and i will save approx 600$ a year
using worst case scenario figures
i owe approx 4.5k on the accord which has 33k miles on it and its an 05 kbb might be 14k on it.

A: Let’s examine the situation… assuming the Accord will fetch you roughly 11K-13K on a tradein, that means, you’ll have somewhere between $6,500-$8,500. We’ll assume that you will pay $23,270+tax+title+registration, etc. for the new car – about $25,500 in total out of pocket (we’ll assume cash payments for now, even though you probably need financing, for otherwise you would likely not have payments on the current car). That means you need to come up with about $17,000-$19,000. Under the assumption that you save $600 per yr, that’ll take about 30 yrs to make up the difference in fuel saved. do yourself the favor, keep the car you have, and use a light foot when accelerating, and avoid idling the car etc to save fuel instead.

Q: 1995 civic hatchback automatic vs 1999 zx2 escort vs 97 accord all three race automatic stock and 1/4 mile?
i dont want smart comments just answer for 1st 2nd and 3rd

A: = one really long 1/4 mile race.

Q: camry v6 vs. honda accord or civic?
Im getting a new car soon. I want a good daily driver car, but one that has the power I need when I want it. And I want a good aftermarket supply of performance parts.Should I get a toyota Camry 3.5 v6, a coupe accord v6 or an Si Civic?

A: You also should compare car insurance quotes for cars before buying one, for example here – carquotes.sinfree.net

Q: 09 civic si vs. 09 accord lx coupe?
Im pretty much paying the same price, which one is better. They’re both brand new.

A: Civic Si Coupe:
197hp
6 speed manual transmission only
sunroof
USB
Leather-Wrapped Steering Wheel
Fog lights
Rear spoiler
tighter suspension
premium fuel

Accord Coupe LX-S
190 hp
5 speed manual or automatic transmisson
Sunroof not available
USB not available
Leather wrapped steering wheel optional
Fog lights after market
Spoiler optional
softer suspension
regular fuel

Find all the information you need about car manager game.Your Number One Source for Automotive Discussion – CarForums.net

Q: Was this car dealer pulling a game?
I’ve been shopping around for cars lately, particularily Infiniti G23’s between 06-08.

So I come across an Infiniti today that seemed like a good price/deal. 2006, only 28,000 miles, CarMax says it’s clean and no problems. The car dealer seemed nice. Young guy, nice guy, about my age, early-mid 20’s perhaps. Anyway, I test drive it and we sit in the office and listen to him try to “sell” it to me — the usual. I meet his manager. Yadda yadda yadda. I get home, and maybe an hour later, the dealer calls me to let me know that the manager’s friend is coming by to purchase the car in 45 minutes, and that I have the opportunity to let him know that I can come buy to purchase the car so he can hold it for me.

I just find it funny that all-of-a-sudden the manager’s “friend” wants to buy the car. Why would the manager let his friend know about the car within 1 hour after I looked at it? Otherwise, he would have told me that someone is already going to buy it. Secondly, why would they want ME, who they only met for 20 minutes, to buy the car and prevent a personal friend of theirs from buying it? It doesn’t make sense.

I’m not used to dealing with car dealers (my last car was purchased at an auction), so maybe some of you that have may know that this is a classic car dealer trick.

I’m willing to bet if I show up there Monday (when I plan), that the car will still be available. The thing is, this dealer was high on my list (narrowed down to the top 2). But now it makes me want to play games with him. Should I tell him that the other dealership was selling the same car for $8,000 less to get him to reduce his own price?
I meant to say Infiniti G35. No such thing as a G23. What am I even talking about.
masstex: You’re blaming me and calling me an idiot. I’m just saying, it’s not necessary for the guy to lie and try to get me to rush over there to buy the car before his “friend” does. He was high on my list and I will probably buy from him anyways.

A: Does it sound a little funny that all of a sudden the manager’s “friend” wants the car? Yes, it does.

That doesn’t mean it isn’t true. I’ve been in the business for many years now, and it really has happened. Not often, mind you, but it has happened several times to me.

Maybe the guy was “lying”… it’s not the worst thing I’ve heard though. He may have just been trying to light a fire under your ass so you come buy the car from him. I don’t condone lying, but if that’s the worst thing that happened to you today, you had a good day!

Salespeople are not all sleazy, and not all of them play games. But like someone else said (although he said it rudely), salespeople are on commission and want to sell the car.

Maybe the guy got a little creative. So what? If you like the car, and can afford the car, buy the car.

Good Luck!!

Q: How do I go about getting compensation for the poor work done on my car causing my engine to blow up?
Heres the situation:

I got an oil change at Speedee Oil in North Attleboro,MA on Saturday 1/7. Then I did not drive my car for about a 2 week period due to being away last weekend and taking the commuter rail to work each day. I then drove my car all day yesterday. Then as I was heading out to an afterniin dinner before the game last night, I was driving onto the 95 S and my car all of a sudden died. I had no warning lights on until the car shutdown. I was able to et over thankfully.

I was towed to the local Toyota because of the free roadside service I have. According to the manager there, Speedee did not put the oil filter cap back on correctly causing it to fall off while I was driving and the oil coming out. The engine is now blown on a car with only 4K miles. Speedee right now is not claiming any fault in the matter. I dont know if I should continue going after the local place because they are individual franchises or take this to the corporate level to see if they have any link

A: You must take it to someone else who can prove that the first person did not fix your car properly… you might have to go as far as to prove they made the condition worse…. then when you have the proof take it to the fist business and tell them you wish to be compensated… if they do not make you feel whole you can take them to small claims court (under 5k damages) and settle it that way.

Q: How Ajax Technology could be used for creating an online game?
Hi.I am working as a brand manager in a Creative Agency and handling a client which is one of the largest car maker in the world. We are making an online game for this company. I want your help to find out how Ajax Technology could be used to make this online game. U can provide me important links also.

A: Ajax is very powerful stuff – but its really useful in populating forms and interface elements in a web page without refreshing or reloading. I second the first poster’s suggestion that you really ought to consider Flash for such a thing, since just about everyone has Flash anyway…. its graphics model would be less flaky than a web browser, and you wouldn’t have to worry about the behaviour of different browsers.

Q: Whats A good pc game?
I like manager game ( soccer ) and i like simulation like bus driver and the sims. I also like some army games and also games like need for speed where u can customise cars

Ps. Ive football manager 2010 and the sims 2 but my pc cant run 3 and i have need for speed

A: here is 1 for every genre
RPG: dragon age origins
FPS cod 6, hl2, or counter strike (basically anything made by valve
racing NFS shift
simualtion: city building games
RTS: rise of nations
Sports NHL 2010

Q: How is it legal for a car dealer to charge me more or less than the next person for the same car?
I do not understand this. First, it’s just stupid that since the 50’s this cat and mouse game has been going on. Customer threatens to walk away before saleman walks into manager’s office That stuff.

Second, I can’t believe that with today’s overly litigous society, lawyers don’t file 300 lawsuits per day against auto dealers for discrimination. I’m lost on this one.

A: I am with you. I am so sick of the smoke and mirrors in auto sales. There’s a place here that feeds you a meal because you are there so long getting tortured by the sales staff. It’s almost as bad as the real estate game!

Q: My car salesman is out today so should I go?
talk to the Manager? I’m interesting in a used car and really like our car salesman. I saw the car yesterday and he’s out of the office today. He said to bring my vehicle in tomorrow to get the trade-in value. Should I skip him and go today? Does that seem desperate? I don’t want them to stick it to me…oh the games.

A: Well….this is how it works.
If your salesmen doesn’t get the transaction done,
he won’t get the commission.
Instead, whoever helped you out will get the commission.
So if you do like your sales, wait a day, and tell him or her that you have waited the salesmen just because you liked his or her service. = )
I’m pretty sure that the salesmen would appreciate that and try to get you more service. = )

Q: Why is it such a hassle to buy a new car?
We’ve been wanting to buy a new car for the past 6 months. We have a Honda CRV with just 30K miles on it and we can get really good money for it vs. the 6-months left on its 5-year loan. But we’ve been avoiding going to the car dealers because we know it’s such a hassle.

We’re smart buyers, we know all their tricks, and we even play good cop / bad cop as part of the negotiations (so they aren’t the only ones playing games with their “let me check with my manager” and “we don’t do this for everyone, but….” nonsense a la Mr. Lundegaard in Fargo).

But it’s SUCH A HASSLE.

Why can’t you just go to a dealer, all the people are paid F/T salaries, they show you the product, and either it sells itself or it doesn’t. If it doesn’t sell, the company knows they need to make a better product. That’s it.

Ugh!

We’re probably going to buy through CarMax just for this reason, but STILL we need to somehow test drive the ones we’re thinking of getting. What a nighmare!

A: I know what you mean, I hate the typical car buying process as well. But the reason salespeople engage in all the back-and-forth sales shenanigans is because, more often than not, it works.

Have you ever watched the tv show “King of Cars” on A&E? The owner on that show is always saying that if a customer visits the dealership and leaves without buying anything, chances are they will not come back. Hence, when a potential buyer comes on the lot, they treat it as if it’s their only chance to ever sell them anything and pull out all the stops. Just sitting back and letting the car sell itself doesn’t cut it.

I’m sure every dealer would love to have better product, but the fact is every car manufacturer is constantly trying to make a better product (while balancing price), and it’s very difficult to stand out. Even if you do have a hot product, it will inevitably cool down. The re-designed ‘05 Ford Mustang was a huge hit for Ford that year, but two years later the hype has died down and you can once again get a Mustang for under invoice. What is Ford to do? Doing another re-design would be very costly, and even if they did there’s no guarantee it would sell any better.

If you want a no-hassle/no-haggle experience, there are usually a few dealers around who do this to attract customers such as yourself, though maybe not the brands you’re looking for. Cehck out Saturn — their entire marketing strategy is designed around having a no-haggle, low pressure, customer friendly buying experience (of course, they’re a classic example of a brand that needs better product! Although the new Aura and Outlook are pretty nice).

You can also use car buying services like Costco and carsdirect.com to buy these days, they can even arrange test drives for you.

Q: As Loverpool manager, I’m thinking of replacing Torres, Gerrard and Kuyt for Tuesday’s Reading game with……
Graham………the groundsman.
Beryl…………..the tea-lady.
Percy ………..the 65yr. old car-park guy.

Do you think my tinkering will work or cost us another 2 points ?

A: I don’ t think its the policy that’s wrong – its just at the moment he is not getting the choice of players right for each individual game…

Q: Maths investigation..”A game of chance”?
A few years ago, in the town of Winchester in Southern England, the manager of Mercedes Car Showroom came up with an idea which quite caught the imagination of the public. He advertised a sort of raffle or competition whereby people paid 50 pence, then rolled 7 dice. If each die showed a six, the person won a luxury car (value at £35000). Your job is to analyze, from a probabilistic point of view where the game is fair or not.

- probability of winning the car?
- number of people expected to take part in the competition before the car is won
- the amount of money expected to be generated before the car is won
- expected profits/ loss
- what a “fair” game is
- what a “fair” profits/loss would be
- the population of winchester
- what effect would be of changing the rules to
- using fewer (more)dice
- charging less(more) for a chance of playing
- changing the rules entirely for winning the car
- offering a less(or more) expensice car as prize

can you help me ??:D:D

A: The probability of seven dice each showing a 6 is 1/6^7 or about 1 in 280,000. Therefore, on probability grounds, you would expect half that number 140,000 to have a go before the car was won. Obviously it could be more or less.

This represents an expected income of £70,000 or twice the cost of the car they were giving to the winner. Is that reasonable? It is a matter of opinion. Bear in mind that the winner could have come much sooner than the 140,000th person, and could of course come later or never.

The population of the town is only relevant if you think that the offer would not attract many visitors. Also residents could have paid for attempts on behalf of friends or relatives who lived a long way away. The question said that it “caught the imagination” which suggests a lot of interested and possibly paying customers.

I think that’s enough help.

Q: Where can I complain if I have a problem with my Volkswagen dealership?
My Volkswagen dealer sold me a car with a CD-changer. But when I got home I noticed that there was no CD changer. I’m paying for something that I never received. For 4 months now I’ve been trying to get this settled but the manager is playing a game with me. He either ignores my voice messages, or says that he’ll take care of it, or he cts surprised that nobody has contacted me yet. Lately he really screens my calls and the receptionist always has to make up an excuse so that he doesn;t have to talk to me. It’s the Winn VW dealership in Newark CA and the manager’s name is John Winn.

A: The dealership should just go ahead an honour the deal; however, since they haven’t this is what I’d do: Contact the New Car Dealer Licensing Board, this is part of the Consumer Affairs Department thru Sacramento, CA (our state capitol) thru the 800 telephone number and also send a letter both via USPS certified mail with a return reciept (so no cannot say that they didn’t receive it) make sure that you enclose what documentation you have showing that you purchased a vehicle with the cd changer as part of the new car purchase and also mail a copy of the letter to the owner/manager of the dealership in question.

The dealership will normally be given up to 14 days to respond to your concern, if you have enough evidence to support your complaint, I’m certain that you’ll get a call to settle the matter to your satisfaction. The costs of dealing with state in this matter will exceed the cost of them installing the unit, plus avoid a possible issue with the licensing board.

In addition, file your concern with the local Better Business Bureau and someone like the consumer help people at KRON 4, as no one wants their business to be on television with a negative image. This should put considerable pressure upon the dealership to settle, especially since the amount of money is so, well, small.

Finally, a letter to Volkswagen of America in Michigan will almost certainly add fuel to the fire that you wish to start.
Be brief, to the point, explaining and showing the proof that you have that you may have been taken advantage of. You can obtain the address in your owner’s manual. Be sure to send this letter certified mail with a return receipt; VW will respond to this by assigning a case number; they may or may not be able to do anything since this is case of a dealership issue, not a vehicle issue, but no one wants to have the attention of the factory over a customer satisfaction issue that is so minor.

Finally, if all else fails, you could go to small claims court and hopefully obtain a judgement award to have the CD changer installed, but after all of this writing, I hardly think that it would be necessary and you would have gotten the changer by this time.

I spent on/off, 25 years in Volkswagen dealership service departments from 1980 to December of 2005.

I hope this helps, a car nut.

Q: How much should I sell my PSP and accessories for?
i have a PSP that was almost a year old when i got it (i got it Christmas ‘06) but it’s still in like brand new condition (i never played it)

as for accessories i have: memory card, 4 games & 2 movies (all with original cases), metal carrying case, a plastic carrying case, Media Manager Software, an 8 game case, a 5v charger, a car charger, and USB cable

how much should i sell that all together for?

A: 300buck or sell it piece by piece which u will get more.

Q: I rented a car from enterprise rental car. I dropped the car key in the night with every thing perfect?
I rented a car from enterprise rental car. I dropped the car key in the night with every thing perfect (as it was before renting). The enterprise guy gave me a call the next morning and left me a message, “Every thing is fantastic. Thank you for doing business with us. But there was 2 galons of fuel shortage and we will charge $6 on your card”

Now, it is after almost a month. I just received a call from the “Loss Control Department” saying that there was damage on the car (which is a total lie) and “it’s been already repaired and you need to pay the bill”. When I called the enterprise, went and met them, played their voice message which said “We checked the car and was fantastic…”. But the manager keeps pushing me pay the bill for the damage. My question to them was, if there was damage, why I was not told the next day when they left the message. They don’t have the dated photograph of the vehicle damage. My guess is, the next rental guy must have damaged the car and they are playing a game of getting the money out of me. I tried to complain to the enterprises head office, they have not responded to me yet. Now, did any one have this kind of experience with anyone? If so, what should I do?

I know how it feels when some one puts the blame on you when you are innocent.

I have been very much stressed out for the last 4 days not knowing what to do.
(If I had a damage on the car, I could have called my Geico insurance and get it fixed, but I don’t want to be punished for anything that I didn’t do)
-Thanks for your patience for reading this and replying to me (in davance)

A: You need to stop worrying about this because you have the best thing in the world that will protect you…….you have the recorded message..

That is all that you need and if they continue to hassle you then just tell them that you are going to take “THEM” to court and if they decide that they are going to take you to court, I will guarantee you 100 percent that you will win along with court fees with that recorded message….

Q: my car is losing water. cant see a leak. gurgles when low water. no overheating. help please?
cant see any leaks, but there is a white foam on the expansion filler cap. any ideas please
The oil is clean. I didnt have a problem until the timing belt was changed. does the head have to come off to get to belt?

A: A repair shop can check for a leaking engine “head gasket” that would pressurize the coolant system and make the coolant boil over. If you have overheated your engine in the past because you didn’t keep the coolant full, that could increase the chances that you need a new engine head gasket. In the mean time, make sure to keep both the radiator and the coolant overflow reservoir full.

Q: Car losing water? Please Help!?
Hi! I drive a ‘98 Daewoo Nubira. My problem started 2 weeks ago when my engine light came on & when i stopped the car steam came from under the hood & water was empty. So naturally i took it to the mechanics & they told me i had a broken thermostat which i had replaced.

Everything was fine for about 2 weeks when the same thing happened again, light came on, i stopped the car & steam & no water. To check i filled the water up with coolant & just ran the motor for a few minutes. The water dropped to almost empty. Did this a few times and still it empties quite significantly even though the car is only on for a few minutes & not moving.

No obvious signs of leaks, on the ground or anywhere in the car that i can see. Also no white smoke coming from the exhaust.

Anyone have any idea what it may be? I’m planning on sending it back to the mechanic, but have a little less faith this time!

thanks x

A: you don,t have to have white smoke coming out the tail pipe to be a head gasket. it can go into the oil. you either have to have a leak or it,s going into the engine oil or out the tail pipe. i don,t like telling you this but get rid of that car if you can because the trouble is just starting.

Q: My car is losing water?
The fan works normal and I see no leaks at all when I start the car but it loses water the temp remains normal but the radiator gets emptied in a day

A: I suspect a blown head gasket. Check the oil to see if it is milky. If it is, water is getting into the crank case. Also see if the exhaust is blows white smoke, also a sign of a blown head gasket. You can confirm this by having a compression check done on the engine. all cylinders should be around 10-15 lbs of one another one cylinder much lower than the rest indicates where the gasket failed. Going through that much water should not be hard to find out where it is coming from.

Q: losing water from coolant system?
I recently noticed that the water coolant in my car is losing water and going from max to min over period of 100 miles and the interior windows are always condensated. The dealership said that there is no leak, but the spark plugs are discoloured…..they said this may be due to water leaking into it??? In my opinion if i am losing water and the windows are always steamed up, there must be a problem somewhere. Dealership said the head gasket may have blown but they would not check as it was only a guess on their behalf. This is the Daewoo/chevrolette dealership and not a dodgy independant garage. Any suggestions as to the problem. It drives fine and the heaters work fine, and i had lpg conversion last july but dont know if this is a factor?
I RECENTLY HAD THE IMOBILISER CHANGED AS IT PACKED UP. THEY REMOVED THE DASH TO REPAIR IT. MAYBE COS WATER GOT INTO IT? THERE IS NO DAMPNESS ON THE CARPETS AND NO SMELL OF ANTI FREEZE AND THE WATER LEFT IN THE COOLANT SYSTEM IS CLEAR.

A: HA! most dealers are dodgy!! get another opinion, there appears to be a leak in the interior pipes.

Q: im losing water in my car?
every tme i fill my water resrvoir it just gets suckd down and i have to fill it again,i cant see any viible leaks under car.i also have intermittent heating in the car? when heating is hot it doesnt overheat when its cold the car overheats but not to red hot?!!its not smoking and no creamy texture in oil etc.could be waterpump or thermostat i think.im hoping tstat bcos waterpump is cambelt driven and i cant afford to fix.any help would be great,,thanks!!

ps its a impreza wrx sti 1996

A: I would be looking at the heater core.

Q: why is my car leaking water? it is a dual overhead cam 16 valve motor….and its a 2003 ford focus ZTS?
Okay i am a little mechanically inclined…so its not completely obvious to me. but I blew out a radiator hose on the way home from work…i made the repair and put antifreeze back in it…i have never put straight water in my vehicle because of obvious reasons…anyways…now that i have made the repair and replaced the lost antifreeze, when i start my car it leaks straight water no discoloration or mixture of any kind only water and only when it is running. if it idles the leak is slow but when i give it throttle it sends a steady stream. the leak is towards the back of the motor but i have not been able to locate the source…any advice would help. btw

A: It could be just the water ( condensation) coming from your a/c. Hope this help!

Q: when i use my car a significant amount of radiator water is lost but i have no visible leaks, what’s wrong?
the coolant tank get’s empty

A: Water turns to steam when super heated. There might be little pin hols in the hoses. If your car is older or has harsh environment you should check the hoses. If they are stiff and flaky then you need to change them. Also make sure the radiator cap is on tight.

Q: Question about a car’s water pump?
I know the signs of how to tell if your water pump could be going. A whining noise, smoking, leaking, the car overheating, etc. I’m not sure what I have going on. My car has been acting kinda weird as of late and I’m not sure why. Due to that I’m keeping a close eye on it. When my wife gets home I lie down and watch for any leaks from the car. I’m keeping a close eye on the coolant level as well. Some mornings when I get up and check for leaks there is none. I can drive to work and let it sit the entire day without a drop. But then again some other mornings I’ll go out and notice liquid coming from weird places such as off the A-Arm bar or the exhaust. It’s right around the water pump area. Last night though I checked for leaks as soon as my wife got home and saw none. This morning though when I checked I had a small leak under the car coming off the exhaust. I’m trying to chalk this up to the frost melting off the car and simply dripping down but I don’t know how the frost could make it’s way under the hood and all the way down to the exhaust. I’m waiting to see how the spot dries. A big black spot indicates coolant and if it dries with no visible spot left simple water. I know that right next to the water pump is the A/C Compressor as well but I’m not sure if my wife ran the heater or defroster. If she ran the defroster the liquid could’ve come from the compressor’s normal condensation. Back to the water pump though. I’m not losing coolant the level stays about the same all the time. I can’t tell if the leak is making it’s way from the pump or not. I’m wondering can a pump slowly leak before it totally blows out? The water pump on my car is fairly new only a few years old. It’s a 2000 Ford Taurus. The liquid this morning was brownish and kinda slippery to the touch. Some mornings I get no liquids. That’s why I wonder of the water pump. Would it leak all the time or here and there?
I forgot another detail. About a week ago I had the car looked at. They did a pressure test and it showed no leaks. They lifted the car up and used a light to check visibally for leaks and also again found none by eye.

A: WATER PUMPS HAVE A “WEEP HOLE” Its designed to “SEEP” when going out. Watch TEMPERATURE LEVEL!

NO WATER PUMP = COOLANT STANDS STILL!!!

BEST way to see what Fluid it is/was, as I get driven MAD by NORMAL Condensation in the COLD its REALLY Puffy sometimes, is to lay CARDBOARD under it. This way you can see the Color too.

Q: 406 water leak, rad area?
hi my 1996 P reg 406 1.9 LXDT has a water leak, it is at the front of the car, by radiator so i asume it is from that, but unsure, it seems to only really do it when car is warm, i am losing water from the coolant, i am obviously avoiding driving the car unless i really have too, as dont want to risk more damage! are there other signs i should look for to make sure it not something like head gasket, i cant see no mixture in oil and car doesnt seem to be over heating so i asume it is rad but advice helps me Dawn
there is no cap on the top of my radiator i think it is a sealed one. i am keeping a eye on the coolant bottle and it did lose water that day it leaked but not really lost much now car not moving . i just hope it isnt the gasket as that cost me loads on a old car, the car has been brilliant in the time i have had it, its old but brill nic, i just hope it dont cost the earth to get fixed, i been told 170 for rad and fitting if it is the rad, i dont know signs myself to look, i have tried looking under car but difficult to see

A: Until you get it fixed, here’s some advice. If the radiator has a separate pressure cap on top of it, you must remove that cap when the engine’s cold (not hot!!) to make sure the radiator is full right to the top. Also put plenty of water in the radiator overflow reservoir. A repair shop would “sniff” the radiator cap opening with an emissions gas analyzer to see if you have a bad engine head gasket, but it could be a leaking hose or water pump.

Q: losing water BMW 318se 2001?
Im losing Water from cooling System in my BMW 318SE.. normal driving I need to top up daily ( 1 litre daily), but while not in use there is no leak.
I therefore conclude that the leak occurs while the car is in use. I have checked the exhaust emission, and fine everything is normal, no water or steam visible. I would appreciate any advice Thank you..

A: Check for water in the engine oil and “mayonnaise” like substance on the inside of the oil filler cap – both indicate a blown gasket.
Get the car hot with the heater on as well full heat. Check under the bonnet for water squirting from a pin hole leak in the rad or hoses – can occur and only when hot and under pressure but not with engine off.

Q: How long can you drive with a water pump leak?
got a diognostic check water pump is leaking but the coolant resevoir is not losing any coolant but the car is indeed overheating to the point the car shuts off. have no money to fix it right now just wondering how long does it usually last because ive been driving it for like 3 months and now my cars loosing power when accelerating there is little to no power when in first gear, its in 4th and 5th gear that my car has to keep up to decent speed like 30mph

A: Not very long >>> I guess you know now though…DON’T YOU?

It’s going to keep leaking and get worse. The bearings are shot and it’s telling you. It’s best to bite the bullet and get it fixed. The alternative if much more costly

Same answer as the last time you asked, about 5 minutes ago!!!

Q: My Hyundai Trajet is losing water?
After a very cold night over xmas ie. -15C the next day my car was overheating. I did have anti-freeze in the engine but I found on inspection that the thermostat needed replacing which I have done now

However after a short trip of 30 mins I find that the temperature guage is on normal but the header tank needs filling up with at least 2 litres of water. There are no signs of a leak from the engine or radiator/hoses and wonder if anyone knows what the problem is.

The car drives fine with no problems and the heater works fine too.

There is no oil in the water and as the car drives well I am presuming it isnt the head gasket.

Is it a blocked radiator?

Thanks for your help.

A: jock has nailed almost all probable causes but one worth trying here as cheap and often overlooked is the header tank cap is normally a pressure valve itself and if this fails or the seal to system isn’t working it won’t allow system to fully pressurise and steam ( water) will escape.
check for traces of anti-freeze around hoses as well as core plugs. do look under car around gearbox /clutch housing a there will be a rear core plug not visible as its behind the flywheel. it will leaves traces of anti-freeze at bottom of bell housing ( bit where gearbox mates to engine)
you may also have a pinhole in a hose so again looking for traces of anti-freeze will be a good way of locating such leaks if any.

Q: Leaking Water Need Help?
I have a 78 buick regal 3.8 liter V6 and for about 2 months I thought I had a cylinder head problem since I was losing water so I have been keeping water in the over flow tank about 2 gallons per week. anyways talk to a mobile machanic and he said to check the spark plugs, oil and see if their is white spoke out the tail pipe. Well no fluids in the spark plugs my oil needs to be changed but no water or coolent and yes I have white spoke but only while my car is in high ideal then it goes away their is some water that spitting out maybe 2 big table spoons.

Now I noticed their is water leaking down the front of the engine block I looked everywere and their is no place in that area that would have water leaking. their is a pool above the water pump but I can’t find were it’s coming from.

Any ideas

A: Im gonna guess timing cover seal. Its right where the waterpump is and when it leaks it spills over onto the waterpump. Not that hard to do just like doing the waterpump except its in front of the pump or should i say behind the pump.

Q: Losing water in my punto, Head gasket?
Guessing the head gaskets gone but before I go and buy one then strip the whole thing down tomorrow ,want a second opinion.

There seems to be steam coming from the exhaust but I’m unsure if this is due to the fact its freezing outside.

Theres no oil in the coolant, not suffering from lack of power and the system happily pressurizes.

There are no leaks anywhere else on the car. So is there anything else it could be?
Lol, forgot to mention It loses about a litre ish of water over an hour run.

A: Hi

You could have a leaking water pump. Start the engine and then look around the bottom of the timing cover or thereabouts and see if you can see coolant leaking out of it. It may make things easier to remove the top timing cover.

If you can’t see any leaking, and the oil and water aren’t mixing, then you need to have a cylinder compression test carried out before you change the head gasket.

Very best regards

Geordie

Q: hi i have a Peugeot 206, it kept losing water for 2 months.?
Hi i have a Peugeot 206, 2000
radiator is clean, changed thermostat, mechanic checked head-gasket by doing some kind of air pressure, there are no leaks at all(did a pressure test), i also changed the coolant reservoir cap. the symptoms are as follow: i drive my car for about 10 minutes, it starts heating beyond 90 degree, water pop out of the container cap (i opened the bonnet and saw water all over the motor), i continue driving the car but it doesn’t overheat (between 90-100 degree), i doubted some failure in water pump or some pressure in the cooling system, the mechanic # 5 i went to for this problem says it may be the radiator valve, i don’t believe it is the issue anyway, could any one suggest any problems may cause this???i started being obsessed with this and i can’t let it go.:-S
the water signs on the motor shows that it comes from the reservoir (the tank where coolant is poured in, i’m not sure of my english)

A: Check the following again:
1. bad radiator cap
2. low level of coolant
3. coolant leaks
4. fan malfunctioning
5. clog radiator
6. water pump malfunctioning
7. air trap in your system needs to bleed
There are 2 reasons why you are losing water, there could be a leak or your car is overheating. Hope this help

Q: does anyone else not like the new BMW body style?
I have 2002 bmw with only 56000 miles on it and I love everything about it for two years that iv owned it no problems. My girlfriend says she likes the new body on the coupes but I like my coupe 330 more I mean they are practicaly same cars diffrent body do u guys not like the new bodies(e92) more?

A: I agree with you ilke the e46 body style because i don’t like the new face lift

Q: what is the difference in body styles of the bmw 3 series years 2001-2004?
i was deciding whether to buy a 2001 330xi or 2004 325i

A: They share the same e46 chassis and you won’t find any significant changes in the body panels. The headlights, sidemarkers and the front skirt have had a few minor tweeks.

The obvious and largest different between the two are the engines and the drive trains. The 330xi denotes a 225-230hp 3.3 liter engine with all wheel drive. The 325i is a 185hp 3.25 liter rear wheel drive.

If the mileage is roughly the same I would go for the 330xi over the slightly newer 325i. You’ll definitely notice the extra horsepower and you’ll gain some control and winter forgiveness from the all wheel drive system.

Q: When did then change the body style of the bmw 3 series?
05,06,07 am not sure. I want to get one but am gonna get the first year of the new body style. Someone let me know TY
So in 2006 the new body style was introduced correct? Y/N

A: The e90 3 series sedan started with model year 2006.

The e92 3 series coupe didn’t go on sale until September 2006 as a 2007 model year car. I drove a 335i coupe before the official launch.

The older e46 3 series coupes and convertibles were sold during 2006.

Edit:
>>So in 2006 the new body style was introduced correct? Y/N

There is no correct Y/N to that question. BMW changed the different versions of the 3 series at different times. Sedan, Coupe or Convertible?. Are you asking Model Year or the Launch Date when the first cars showed up at dealers?

Sedan — Model Year 2006 Launch Date Sept. 2005
Coupe — Model Year 2007 Launch Date Sept 2006
Convertible — Model Year 2007. Launch Date. Feb 2007

M3 — Model Year 2008. Launch Date March 2008

Q: Does anyone miss the old BMW Body Style’s? ?
Say 1989-1999. Didn’t they really start changing the body in 2000?

I wish BMW would go back to the classic, Vintage look.

It actually took me awhile to get used to the new body’s – but now I think they’re beautiful & nothing drives as fun as a Bimmer

I mean I’ve seen a clean white 1989 535i and it’s more gorgeous to me than any other car on the road. I think BMW would be ’smart’ to create a ‘new’ but vintage looking Bimmer.

What do you Bimmer fanatics think?

A: I like the early 90’s ones.

I saw a black 5 series with the AC Schnitzer (sp?) package and it looked REAL nice.

Q: Greatest looking BMW body style?
Up to say….. 2000.
Yes, they all have great looks…….. except for any X series or new one. I already own the greatest BMW on the planet, an e10.

A: BMW’s McLaren-F1, with gullwing doors. http://www.car-wallpaper.net/mclaren/images/srcMcLaren-F1-1997-006.jpg

But if only including regular production cars available to ordinary citizens, E46 coupe.

Q: 2011 bmw change body style?
Will the new 2011 bmw have a new body style?

A: Can you be a tad bit specific? Do you mean the 5 series? If so, then yes, the 2011 5 series will be completley redesigned from head to toe. The 528i sedan officially came out for sale about an hour ago at a national MSRP of $44,550. The 2011 535i and 550i have been out for sale for the past month. New BMW’s coming to US shores include the 2011 BMW X1 compact SUV and soon to come in 2011 a completley redesigned BMW 6 series coupe and convertible as well as a M version of the 2011 BMW 5 series sedan aswell as a new generation of the 3 series will come in a year or two.

Q: how often has the BMW 325ci changed body style?
Id like to know how many generations there are of this car and how to tell them apart by year

A: Go to any BMW website to telle the difference in generations, they are not mistakeable.

E30 Body from 1987 to 1993
E36 Body from 1996 – 1999
E46 Body from 2000 – 2006 (Face lift in 2004) Nose Grill slightly modified
E93 Body from 2007 – current

Q: When will BMW change the body style of the x5?

A: The BMW X5 E70 was introduced in 2007 and will be changed again in 2016.
a facelift can be done after 4-5 years.(just minor changes)

Q: What is the difference in BMW 525 iT and 325 iT wagons in body styling? The year I am looking at is 2003/04.?
I have seen several older (2003-2005) BMW wagons that I love. I like the sportier look, not long and sleek, and am not sure what model that is. Any help appreciated!

A: I have a 99 528it wagon and i think the 5 series has much more swagger in its design…..It’s timeless.

It’s so funny whenever I pull up besides some tree hugger in their brand new Subie Wagon and they look over with desire.

I call it…..Beemus Envy

Q: BMW e36 body styling?
I have a front splitter and a rear spoiler i need spraying and fitting also a small amount of bubble rust on rear wheel arch i’d like sorting out.Anyone have any idea how much this is likely to cost me?Thanx
All right calm down im 100% with you on this. Its not a giant whale tail spoiler its all genuine bmw bits,im 27 and im not a boy racer, all novas, corsas, saxos etc should be blown off the face of the earth.

A: Ignorance always raises its head whenever car modification is mentioned. Anyway, You’re looking at at least 400 quid.

Q: what is the year range for the bmw e34 body style? is it 89-95?

A: In. the United States, E34s were from 89-95. E39s were from 97-03. There were no 96 5 series exported to the US. Europe had 96 E39s though.

Q: When will the BMW 3 Series have a body style change?

A: The BMW 3 series had its body style changed in 2006 to a more modern, aggressive look. Seeing as how previously, the body hadn’t changed significantly for over 10 years, I’d say it will take a while until the 3 series has a new body style change. The M3 just came out, which is a bit sportier version of the 3 series, and it has a slightly different body.

Q: what year did BMW last change their body style on their 328 sedan model? Was it 2006 or 2005 or some diff yr?

A: Actually, the 328i and 328xi were reintroduced in 2007. They replaced the 325i and 325xi engines that had been in the 3 series since 2001. Before 2001 the 328 was the biggest of the engines offered on the 3 series excluding the M line. The 328 is now the smallest engine and is offered along with the 335i and 335xi.
As a side note x denotes awd for a BMW in which it is called X Drive

Hope this helps!

Q: What is the difference between BMW z4 roadster and BMW z4 M Coupe?
Ok, so I absolutely love the body style on the BMW z4 but when I went to the site to look at colors it showed me the roadster and the coupe. The body looked identical from the pictures available. Is it something with the engine or interior? What are the prices for each? Is there any structural difference or what?
besides hard and convertible top. Which would be less? (across the board like used too)

A: The obvious difference between the roadster and coupe is one is a convertible, the other is not (the coupe is not a convertible!). The “M” car gives you the motor-sport engine option. 333hp versus the 225hp 3.0. An M Coupe versus a regular coupe, obviously more money for the M.

Q: can you put a bmw m3 gtr body kit on a bmw e46 2dr?
they look like they have the same body style the difference is in the engine and tags.. i love those fender flares on the gtr..

A: nopeee

Find all the information you need about best rims for integra.Your Number One Source for Automotive Discussion – CarForums.net

Q: What would be the best rim size for a 4 door integra 97, if I wanna slam it?
Also does anyone know a site or place to get rear valences or a rear lip for a 4 door integra 97?

A: i had a 5 lug on mine with JDM itr wheels, and the vehicle was dropped about two inches, it had function, ive seen cars slammed with 19’s on them and still drive but ive had issues with a 2.5 in drop and 17in rims, so id stick to 16’s if you still want to keep

as for the rear valence i havent seen them for sale, but ive seen them on cars. so im guessing the people who have used them modified the lip to make it fit properly, i dont think theres really much of a difference on a 2 door bumper then a 4 door, atleast that a lip kit would be effected

Q: I want head turning rims for my silver acura integra. Where is the best place to shop?
Money is not on my side, and i would like a rims and tire package. I need CHEAP but NICE

A: Save your money, put it in the bank and forget about it…then one day you’ll be able to buy something you really need…like new tires

Q: what would be the best color for an acura integra with black chrome rims?

A: black!

Q: whats the best suspension for my 95 integra ls on 17″ rims?
complete springs and all

A: The best suspension depends on your goals for the car. Are you looking for a nice stance? Best handling? Daily driven comfort?

3 factors:
1) Cost
2) Handling
3) Comfort

You can only choose 2 out of 3, i.e. if you’re looking for both handling and comfort, you have to be prepared to spend a good amount. If you want great handling and have a limited budget, that will come at the expense of comfort.

Coilovers are generally best because of the matched springs/shocks. In this category, I’d recommend something like Tein coilovers – either the Basic or Super Street based on your needs. The Basic allows for height adjustment but not dampening, while Super Street will allow you to do both.

That’s not to say that you can’t find some springs and shocks from different companies that match well, it’s just a bit harder. Luckily, many have gone through this trial and error already. I like Ground Control coilover springs (basically Eibach springs with custom spring rate and height adjustment) matched up with Koni “Yellows” or Tokiko Illumina shocks. You can select how stiff you want the springs to suit your application, and the shocks have dampening adjustment as well for sporty canyon runs, or daily driven comfort.

Springs and shocks aren’t the only component of suspension though – there are strut braces, sway bars, etc. to consider to stiffen up the chassis and improve handling.

Rear Sway Bar – I’d definitely get a rear anti-sway bar, perhaps the Skunk2, to help stiffen up the rear and decrease understeer.

Front Strut Tower Brace – You may also consider a front strut tower brace – I would go 4-point for more rigidity (eg. Neuspeed), but there are also 2-points, eg. Mugen that work well.

Rear Strut Tower Brace – I would skip the rear strut brace unless you have extra funds – I felt it was more looks than performance.

Front Roll Center Adjusters – helps increase the roll stiffness

Camber Kit – Ingalls or Skunk2 make good kits that will allow you to adjust camber for your application.

Lower Arm Bars & Lower Control Arms – helps connect all the suspension parts together to prevention chassis distortion. I like Skunk2

Bushings – Polyurethane bushings will increase the response of your car over the stock rubber ones which are squishy. Perhaps something like the Energy Suspension Hyper Flex.

Make sure you get some nice wide, sticky tires for those rims as well. Maybe something like the Dunlop Direzza Star Specs.

Hope that helps. Good luck!

Q: Whats the best tire size for 18×7 40mm offset rims, these are going on a 97 integra?
Im thinking of 215/35/18

A: You pretty much answered your own question. I don’t know if you could fit anything taller or wider, it’s not like an Integra has large wheel openings to fit big tires on it.

Q: Rims for a Dark Green Acura Integra?
I have a 1995 Acura Integra and it is Dark green and….well i would like to know what color of rims would look best if any…please post your opinions

A: go to tirerack.com they have a program where you can see your car (year, make, model,& color ) with any size wheel and any wheel that they carry on your car !!! i liked the ASA AR1 18″ it looked sharp on your car check it out!

Q: CAR EXPERTS!!! whats the best size tire that will fit good to put on 17″ rims for an Acura Integra?

A: it depends on the backspacing of the rims but 205/40/17 works good for smaller hondas

Q: rims for my integra..16’s or 17’s. i got a set of both. with is best for performance and which is best for loo
i dont race much anymore cause i got more into the loud ass system and more showy stuff. but i do race from time to time so i want to know which would be best to race on?

A: cool!please check on the tire wells of your car.do they have enough space to put the 17s on specially and of course lowered or dropped cars.check on all the clearances so you will not be having problems after.if the 17s cant fit,you know its the 16s. for 17s 45series tyres for flat surface racing,40series for look good and static display and cool drives.

Q: what is the best website for body kits, rims, for tuner cars?
cheaper body kits, rims, engine parts, etc.. for tuners (honda civic hatchback, integra) .. i have found some websites but they are priced more than they should, if anyone knows any, tell me.. i already know of craigslist. thanks

A: www.andysautosport.com
www.passwordjdm.com

Q: Integra brakes?
What’s the best brake upgrade for a 95 Integra? In order to keep unstrung weight to a minimum, I want to keep my 15″ rims.

A: To keep the 15″ rims, you can swap for Prelude rotors & calipers or go with ITR rotos and calipers.

In both cases you’ll have to redrill it to 4 bolts instead of 5. Lots of racers have done this mod and it works great.

Its cheap and its effective.

Q: Help wid the integra?
im think bout getting a 4dr integra when i do get it im thinking about turbocharging it..what would be the best turbocharger to put into a gsr motor??? im also doing that whole gsr motor and tranny swap i have plans for the car its jus wat turbo i can use to go fast i heard if i do the k20 swap and chip it im only gona get 8psi wid turbo…im a person thats tryn to get fast i guess not like a ricer or anythin like that im jus keeping it simple..itr front end conversion front lip and rota rims thats all imma do outside…im jus tryn to get my integra as fast as it can goal is to get at least to the 500 whp thats all…all im asking is help me wid the turbo question and parts so i can look into em…im also gona make it AWD..u guys might think thats crazy but its possible i have a friend that owns a ek and did the whole AWD conversion him self so yea im jus tryn to get up there im a newbe jus tryn to make my dreams come true…so question is what turbo can i use and parts to make em fast ill look into the parts before i buy em…. thanks sorry for this whole story jus tryn to give u guys the info and my taste….

A: Step 1 – Go back to English class

Step 2 – Stop reading Super Street

Step 3 – Win the lottery so you can afford your crazy ideas

ok now ill help a tiny bit

FULL-RACE turbo kit (pieced together by you) with Intercooler
HONDATA
K24 bottom K20A2 head
Low compression pistons
All forged internals and head work
Cams (BC,IPS)
New Axles (Stronger)
New Clutch and Flywheel (Exedy,ACT,Comp Clutch)
New Radiator
Innovative Motor Mounts
3″ Exhaust and Down Pipe
+ much much more

***OR***

BUY A MITSUBISHI LANCER EVOLUTION or SUBARU IMPREZA STi since you want AWD

Q: 98 civic si, 98 integra gs or 96 prelude srv?
I am trying to buy my first car and dont know what I want.. price range of 7000$..

1998 Civic Si.. full power options incl sunroof, coilovers, carbon fibre hood, tint, 200,000km car has a 5 spd and puts out about ~127 hp not sure of torque, 106 ft lbs?

1998 Integra GS, full power options incl sunroof and leather! With 170,000km, tint, lowered, rims, clear corners, 5 spd. 140 hp and not sure of torque, 125 ft lbs?

1996 Prelude SRV (top model) this car has 210,000km, 5spd, lowered, rims, intake, MINT leather interior! 2.2L 190 hp and not sure of torque but probably pretty high.

All in all I would totally go for the Prelude, but those preludes are notorious for rusting, plus they gotta have premium and insurance is a bit more for them. Economically I should just go for the civic, but I dont know. Anyone experience the 1.6L, 1.8L and 2.2L honda motors? Which one do you think would satisfy me best? I am not trying to be a hardcore racer or anything but I would like to go fast when I want to, i normally drive speed limit

A: they all have really high miles… id keep looking, integras and preludes are really nice. look for a integra type r

By the way… Acuras are a step up from honda so the integra is going to be BETTER. I might be wrong but a GSR is as fast if not faster than a prelude stock, and just so you know GSR’s are nice but type R’s are a little faster jackass.

Q: Who can tell me of this car, best answer whoever gives most info.?
Its an acura 2 wheel drive, four cylinders, manual, model is 1994 Acura Integra GSR
This is the seller’s description and i dont know too much of cars so im wondering if you guys can tell me of some of what theese features do and as well as your opinion. Thanks.

Extremely modified 95 VTEC motor: block has been sleeved and O ringed, pistons and rods balanced and blueprinted, all gaskets matched; JE 84mm aluminum forged pistons this is bigger than stock (81mm) so the motor is closer to a 2.0L not a 1.8L; Manley steel billet connecting rods these are not the econo or light series; Stock crank (painted for oil shedding) and stock cams; Piston skirts, bearings, cams and oil pump are all Teflon coated; Piston combustion chamber, valves and exhaust ports are coated with a thermal barrier DC header 4-1 with ceramic thermal barrier coating for heat and to look polished; AEBS head bolts; Toda racing Head gasket and Kool Blue copper exhaust gasket; Ferrea stainless steel valves 1mm oversized; Ferrea dual spring high pressure valve springs rated for 11k RPMs polished for friction reduction; Ferrea titanium retainers and valve locks; Stage 1 port and polish on intake and exhaust ports; Hondata intake manifold gasket for heat insulation; OEM oil pump Teflon coated; Unorthodox aluminum pulleys; AEM CAI Cold Air Intake – with carb stickers; HA Sport forged aluminum (polished) engine mounts; Koyo – 4 core aluminum radiator; Random Technologies high flow cat; Greddy EVO II cat back exhaust system; Stock LS transmission rebuilt about 30k miles ago; Southland 6 puck clutch and 1400 lbs pressure plate, flywheel lightened to 12lbs, New OEM axles and cv jointsl; Aftermarket fiberglass Combat Bomb front end with Acura CL headlights; New 17 Konig MP3 rims with new (10 miles) 205 / 40 ZR tires; JVC CD player with remote; 4 Boston Acoustics Pro Series 6.5 speakers and tweeters, Alpine Amp, and Pioneer 6 changer; Eibach springs stock height

A: Someone put a lot of money into that engine. You don’t do that if you aren’t going use it for something like racing. They probably beat the crap out of it and its junk.

Q: What are some cheap fast cars?
I am looking to buy a car for 2000$ firm. I want it to look sporty but most importantly go fast!

Im also going to put new rims and tires on after, new headers etc.

So far I’ve been looking at:
1985-1995 Ford Mustang
1990-2000 Honda Civic
1990-2000 Acura Integra
1990-2000 Nissan 240sx

What year for these above cars are best? and Why?

Any suggestions on any other cars? Please Help.

A: 1990-2000 Honda Civic
1990-2000 Acura Integra
1990-2000 Nissan 240sx

Stock = NOT fast.

And depending on what Mustang you’re looking at, it might be in there, too.

Stock Honda Civic EX, for example: 17.2 in the 1/4. There are many SUVs that beat that.

And if you want it to “importantly go fast!” why would you waste money on new rims, tires….when you could put that money into legitimate performance adders? If you’re trying to go fast, wheels are one of the LAST things to address.

Look to 1980’s muscle. Camaro, Firebird, etc. Bought my last Iroc for $500. Ran great, plenty of power. Leaves you 1500 to make it go even faster.

1990-1994 Eclipse, Talon or Laser. Under 2k. Turbo, fwd or awd, depending on model Lots of product support, and pretty quick.

Q: Guys or Ladys, help me out and tell me what you think B.t.w Its about a car.?
so, how about I been looking at used cars.

Find all the information you need about best jaguar.Your Number One Source for Automotive Discussion – CarForums.net

Q: What is the best used Jaguar to buy?
Looking for a good used Jaguar. 1980 – 2000. What is the best one to purchase.

A: You should also consider that such a car may be expensive to insure. Check your insurance rates before buying one, for example here – carinsurance.yoll.net

Q: What child car seat fits best in a jaguar xkr?
Does anyone know what is the best child car seat to fit in the rear seats of a jaguar xkr 1999 model?
My child is four years old.
The car is a european spec if that makes any difference.
Thanks in advance.

A: There is no single safest child safety seat for all children and vehicles. The safest seat is one that fits your child, fits your vehicle and one you will use correctly each and every time……………….

http://www.car-safety.org/basics.html

Q: What is the best Oil my Jaguar XJ6 XK engine likes?
I have the 1985 Jaguar 4.2 and everyone says it likes the heavier Oil. So, im thinking of using the 20W-50 like everyone says, or 10W-60. What is this car’s favorite Oil?

I have also heard it said that this is NOT a modern engine that runs best on thin oil, and I believe it. its a Inline 6 from the 50s, 60s, 70s…

A: royal purple will make it run like a champ, thats what i use check it out sometime

Q: What is the best way to Protect my Jaguar’s Engine?
I have the 1985 Jaguar XJ with 4.2L Inline 6, 154,000 Miles

I put some Marvel Mystery Oil int he Crankcase to clean it a little bit

What is hte Best Way to protect my Engine?

This car likes 20W-50 too, i read this on the Jaguar forum

A: 20W-50 is the best way.

Q: Which jaguar do you like best from 2000 to 2003?
I want to buy a used jaguar ( because of the cheap cheap price and the luxery and image you get for it) I can get a 2001 xj8 for 5000. which jaguar do you like best from those years and why?

A: dont buy a jag, the quality is horrible and are prone to breakdowns, do yourself a favor and buy a mercedes benz

Q: what is the best Jaguar XK8 to buy and why?
I dont have vast amounts of cash but a fancy an XK8 but dont know what was a good year or model ,or what are its short falls , whether there is something that i should look out for

A: You should also consider that such a car may be expensive to insure. Check your insurance rates before buying one, for example here – carinsurance.yoll.net

Q: What current Jaguar would be the best car to take on the track and drift with?
The New XKR or XFR with 510HP or the all New XJ supersport? Please say long or short wheelbase if you think the xj is the best But only out of those three cars thanks

A: The XKR and XFR are both good drifting cars but the XKR has the edge in the other aspects of performance.

Q: Who is the best Jacksonville Jaguar ever?
To me it’s Tony Boselli.
No love for Jimmy Smith?

A: They all have the same problem—durability. Maurice Jones-Drew hasn’t had anything catastrophic yet but he’s only had the load for 1 year. Opponents now have a year’s worth of game plan and they’re keying in on HIM. If he puts up those numbers 2-straight years I’ll have to pick him over Boselli.

I pick neither over Smith. He was the MJD of receivers for Jacksonville and he did it for a decade. No big stars throwing him the rock. He was doubled every time and still put up mega numbers for Brunell. Boselli is not getting dogged because he plays OL—there’s just only so much you can do against great O-Linemen while receivers get doubled, oftentimes by SS like Rodney Harrison and Darren Woodson. Unlike Boselli, he got off the ground despite those hits. Had personal troubles but who doesn’t.

5 more years of his current production will make Jones-Drew my pick. Gotta have longevity; Smith had it and an appearance in the AFC Championship game.

Q: Best way to clean jaguar alloy wheels with dark spots on edge of rim?

A: soft wire wheel brush with a high quality wheel cleaner. Most are spray on and spray off, with minimal scrubbing, just let the cleaner sit for a minute and then gently scrub clean than spray off. Use a chammie cloth or a dry sponge to remove water to prevent spotting.

Q: What’s the best Jaguar car??? ?
What would the best Jaguar for a politician to get be?
If you could post pics and links then that would be great too.

Thanks in Advance.

A: Jaguar XJ220 id have to say for the looks and speed seen one at a car show and a dealership

Q: How do I make a jaguar with junk materials? (not a puppet) Best answer 10 points?
I have this homework where we have to make an animal from the rainforest, I chose Jaguar. We have to make them out of junk materials, what should I use?
How should I make it, pls help!

A: The most versatile thing i can think of that you can find a ton of and use a lot of different ways is pop bottles. Different sizes, 2 liters, 1 liter, 20 oz, 16 oz. You could actually build a model out of the bottles, and use either newspaper strips to bind it or maybe other 2 liters cut up to cover gaps then papered. paper mach’e it together you know. You can make whiskers out of bread ties and spot out of a lot of different things, beer or soda bottle caps can be pasted on and painted to be more 3d.

Q: What are the best web sites for asking help on Jaguars? How do you add Jaguar to Yahoo answers?
Looking for help on trouble-shooting the CATS suspension on a 2000 S type?

A: http://ford.com/en/vehicles/owners/myVehicle.htm

Q: I am very interested in getting a Jaguar X-Type sedan version used, what is the best year for that model?
I am looking to get a used one, and was wondering what the differences are if there were any between the different years that it was made. I just love the jaguar looks, the jaguar feel, and the jaguar image. I live in New England which is why I’m choosing the X-Type for its AWD capabilities, any help will be appreciated.

A: sorry to burst your bubble but… the ford mondeo v6 donated its running gear. to make the x type if you want a jag track down a xj6 plenty of them about.

Q: whats the best brand when shopping for a catalytic converter for a 2002 jaguar?
i just purchased a beautiful white 2002 jaguar xtype 65k miles that is missing the catalytic converter and the guy is telling me thats not important and the car will continue running just fine.Is this true and what type should i start shopping for?

A: Your “Check Engine” Light should be coming on soon. The CAT is monitored by all OBDII compliant vehicles. (All Vehicles 1996 and up)

Also it will not pass an emissions test without one as it is a Federally Mandated Emissions Device. If you live in an area that requires a smog or equipment test you will fail and you will not be able to register or tag your car.

Lack of a CAT will also reduce exhaust back pressure. This is good? Right? Well, the engine and some of it’s components i.e. the EGR system were designed with this back pressure in mind and will not work correctly without it.

Last: “Universal” CATs will only last about a year and then need replacing. They also require modification of the exhaust system which can change resonance and functionality. Your best bet is always an OEM Catalytic Converter or a Direct Fit CAT from a reputable manufacturer.

Try www.catalyticconverterwarehouse.com for pricing ideas.

Q: Where is the best place in Western TN to sell a 2002 Jaguar or 2005 Impala?
My husband and I are trying to sell 2 cars. One is 2002 Jaguar & the other 2005 Chevy Impala? There is nothing wrong with either car. We are jut trying to downsize to one vehilce. Where can we advertise the sale of our cars or does anyone have any ideas where we can get the most out of these cars. I have pictures if you are interested in it. Thanks for your help

A: can i view the pix of the cars, and if possible there use age, i will not mind buying one , mail me at aliajao@yahoo.com

Q: i”m wanting to get a 98 subaru impreza, but heard subaru parts are really expensive and so is servicing?
does anyone know how expensive they are compared to other makes of cars

A: Yep, I have a Subaru Legacy Outback, had a Impreza. Its a foreign car, you are going to pay more for everything, insurance, maintenance etc. But it is a high quality vehicle. My Impreza lasted till 230,000 miles and another driver is still driving it. Never had to replace the engine or anything huge like that. You are getting quality for the money. It is a 16 symbol on insurance which is the highest, depending on your age/state, you might be paying alot of money. I am paying 145 bucks a month. I dont have an exact price difference, but the parts are more expensive.

Q: Are subaru impreza WRX cars good, dependable cars? Are parts expensive when need replaced?

A: I have 53k miles on my modified 04, never broken ANYTHING. Never been back to the dealer, I just do routine maintenance.

Q: Subaru – are parts and service too expensive in Australia?

A: depends on your budget. subaru’s tend to be reliable cars, even if you modify it. engine work tends to be more costly due to the design of the engine. parts can be found for very reasonable prices through ebay, nasioc.com, or other forums/online vendors. also, the price varies from one model of subaru to the next. a subaru impreza 2.5rs may be cheaper to work on and maintain than say an impreza sti. if you have a newer (05-07) subaru, then it should be under warranty and most, if not all, parts and labor would be covered. things like oil change, brake pads, rotors, spark plugs would not be covered.

Q: How expensive are replacement parts for a 2006 Subaru Impreza WRX?
Also how does it rate for safety?
I know it depends what you are replacing, but I mean in general, how expensive are parts?

A: I have never thought anything was any costlier than any other car I have owned. But then again, between the 3 WRX’s I have had since mid 01 I have only had to replace a couple things. Maintenance is no different than any other car so it costs the same. Just keep an eye on oil level between changes as with any turbocharged car it’s not unusual to burn a quart or so. Safety is pretty much at the top of their selling point so it’s pretty good. Check out http://forums.nasioc.com/forums/ for everything you need to know about Suabrus and for OEM replacement parts, https://www.subarugenuineparts.com/catalogs.html has always had the best prices even including shipping and great support too.

Q: For insurance cost repairs and parts, which is better , the Honda Fit , Subaru Legacy Wagon or Toyota Matrix ?
Im looking for a fuel efficient vehicle to drive one hour into Montreal. I live in the rural area of Quebec known as Rawdon, which is a little mountainous, and the weather can change from slush to ice to rain for periods of time in the winter. Im a musician and cook that needs an economical hatchback to carry my equipment around. A used car salesman told me that the Honda Fit will be less safe to drive in the winter on Quebec roads than the Subaru Legacy wagon will be. Will it make that much difference ? Is there more chance of getting killed in the Honda Fit on dangerous roads ? Im not a fast driver anymore, and don’t need any more speeding tickets. Some people might say that the Subaru is a superior car ( 2006 Legacy ) but I just spoke to a friend of mine who used to own a Subaru and she said she was paying a lot of money for parts when she needed to do repairs, and to stay away from them. Are Subaru parts much more expensive than Honda, and please tell me why the Subaru wagon is a better choice, if it is. The engine on the Subaru Legacy is almost double the size, I think 2.5 L as opposed to the Fit 1.5, although both are 4 cylinder., and both are selling for around $ 10,000.

I havent looked enough into the Toyota Matrix. They seem to fall somewhere between the Honda Fit and he Subaru Legacy. I think the Fit would probably give the best gas mileage, the Matrix the next best and the Subaru the least. But again, which cost the most to repair ?

I live in the country and my life has not been functional without a vehicle the last few weeks since my Dodge Caravan died, so I need to make a decision as soon as possible.

A: Subaru shares nearly all its underpinnings with almost every other Subaru, Matrix shares it underpinnings with Corolla, so those two are the most likely to have lower costs for maintenance and repairs. Having said that, Consumer Reports has shown the Fit to have the lowest cost of ownership of any car, but I think they base that on purchase new and first few years of ownership.

As for insurance, it probably won’t make a huge difference in a rural setting, but in a city, the Subaru has notably lower rates because they get stolen a lot less than any Honda or Toyota. So if you go to big cities a lot, that might be something to consider.

@StevenG is wrong on one major point: the Matrix is AWD. That is why it, while sharing underpinnings with the Corolla, otherwise gets worse MPG. I don’t know the specifics of where you live, but I live about an hour from the closest reasonable sized town, so most of my petrol is highway miles. Our Forester averages around 24, but when we lived in Fairbanks, Alaska it got down to 18MPG in the winter. Our Fit gets around 40MPG average, worst was 34, best of 45 (we bought it after we moved to the Mojave desert, but it should take less of a dive in the winter since it uses 5w20 year round, and you may want to use 0w20 if Rawdon is anything like Fairbanks climate-wise)

Q: which is better? the mitsubishi Evo or the Subaru Impreza and which one is more expensive on parts/maintenance

A: the evo is a far superior car! evo 8 anyways! et its by far the sexier! scoobys look pap! et evo’s cost lots more to maintain! mitsi charge way too muchos! theyre worse than volkswagen/audi! et if ur worried about money don’t even think about a high performance car!

Q: Are parts for Mitsubishi or Subaru cars hard to find or expensive?
are parts for these cars hard to find or expensive to buy, i can do the install myself

Mitsubishi 3000 GT VR-4
Subaru Impreza
Subaru WRX

A: Looks like those are fairly new models so I’m sure that parts will be readily available from auto parts store or the dealer. I believe that the Subaru has a horizontally opposed engine. I worked on a 2000 Mitsubishi 3000 and they seem easy to work on.

Q: Will repairs/parts be expensive in future for a toyota matrix AWD that isn’t made anymore and is rare to find?
Eventually, a 2006 toyota matrix awd I’m eyeing to buy will need some sort of repairs or parts replaced. The AWD version of the matrix is no longer made (after 2006), and rumor is that the production of all matrix’s will cease in 2008. How much will this effect the availability/cost of parts and price of repair for this car in the future? Say 10 years from now? Will it be significantly more expensive than repairs/parts for a similar type of car still in production, say like a subaru outback ?

A: According to US Law, Toyota must provide repair parts and service to all vehicles sold in this Country. Since Toyota is such a huge auto-maker, there should be zero concerns.

Q: Are Parts for 1999-2005 Subaru models expensive?

A: In general the parts for the subaru are slightly higher than other manufacturer.

But for your 99 to 2005, the parts should not be expensive within the subaru company.

Q: Iam contemplating purchasing a Subaru(Impreza) in near future are parts pricey?
However on of my co-workers told me parts are expensive. She also stated maitenance are expensive. My co-worker compared it to a not so rich Yuppie’s BMW or Mercedes. I remember in my younger years I would purchase cars without even thinking about this to find out a starter cost for $350 just for the part. I hear they are reliable cars but face it eventually something will go wrong.
This would be a used Subaru. The starter was an example but owning about 8 or 9 cars there are quite a price difference in cost of parts.

A: Basic maintenance is absolutely no more than any other car and parts are no different either. I don’t know where your co worker heard this but the basic 4 cylinder starter is not going to be any different from car maker to maker. That’s just dumb. Plus if anything the reliability and safety of Subaru’s should make them a top choice for more people but most are so biased from what they read they are blind. And off course it’s going to be high compared to BMW or Mercedes. Thats because you have to pay for maintenance on a Subaru compared to those cars that include free maintenance for so many years. But that free maintenance has a cost included in the price of the car. It’s just a ploy to have publications report low maintenance costs to fool slow people like your co worker.

Q: Are Subaru cars Reliable?
I’m looking at a subaru impresa to buy cause winter is coming, i need a all wheel drive car are they reliable are the parts expensive?

A: Here’s where Subaru has ranked among car brands in a number of reliability surveys. Most of these surveys included 30-35 brands total.

–1st (Automarxx, Germany, 2005)
–1st (Consumer Reports, 2004)
–2nd (Automarxx, Germany, 2003)
–3rd (Which? Magazine, UK, 2007)
–4th (Choice, Australia, 2001)
–5th (Consumer Reports, 2005)
–6th (Consumer Reports, 2006)
–6th (Top Gear, UK, 2006)
–6th (Top Gear, UK, 2007)
–6th (Warranty Direct, UK, 2007)

In other words, they are consistently above average and their reputation for reliability is well-deserved. Subaru, Honda and Toyota are the three most consistently reliable brands in reliability surveys I’ve come across.

I will say from personal experience that not all general mechanics are familiar with the design of Subarus. Parts aren’t all that expensive, but they are more expensive than for larger “bread and butter” brands.

I will also say that, with a good set of winter tires, you really will not believe what a Subaru can do in the snow. They may not be stylish to some, but in the winter they’re the best-looking cars on the road.

Q: Cost for parts on subaru?
Thinking about getting a used Subaru Impreza. How much are parts for the car and is it expensive to repair like BMW, Lexus, and Mercedez or is it less than that for parts and maintenance?

A: I have never paid more for any Subaru parts I needed than any Honda or Nissan I owned in the past. You just need to know where to shop for things like any other car. https://www.subarugenuineparts.com/oe_parts_cat.html has always been good to me. Much cheaper than my local dealer even including shipping.

Q: Is replacing hte cluthc in a subaru wrx sti really hard?
i heard taht the way subaru designed the cluthc that when you replace the clutch u have to replace all these other parts, really expensive and hassel. whats the repair recrd fro sti good or bad

A: its not hard if you have the tools to do it right. the intercooler has to come out, starter, front axels, driveshaft all before the tranny can be moved. i just done mine. if the clutch is bad than have your flywheel checked too. i replaced mine with a fidanza aluminum flywheel and a clutchmasters stage 1 clutch. i also changed the tranny and rear end fluids with royal purple. it cost a pretty penny for every thing but worth every cent! check out www.ultrarev.com for prices.

Q: Subaru WRX (Not STI) Question for the owners.?
So im trying to decide between some cars on what to own as a track car. Mainly between a miata and a wrx for canyon weekend rides, and once a month track events. Since this is the WRX area, i had some indepth questions about owning a WRX. Thanks in advance for your answers =)

- WRX is obviously a AWD car, now does switching the tires happen pretty often if you take the car out for weekend rides and once a month track events? Would you consider it an expensive part of owning a WRX?

- I’m not to familiar with AWD cars and what to do if the car starts to understeer into spinning out, or oversteer. From what i heard, countersteering is no recommended because it will really throw the WRX into a wall. What is your take on it?

- The WRX is good on sticking to the ground, but does it really keep glued down more then a RWD car?

- Do you really have to drop it at 4k-5k rpm to have a good launch? If so doesnt that hurt the trany really bad?

- How is the overall maintenance for the WRX? From a starters point of view, i see the AWD as an expensive car to maintain due to switching all four tires, and or the clutch or any other parts.

- Any pet peeves with the WRX?

Again. thanks for looking =)

A: if your going to be tracking and daily driving you will want 2 sets of wheels/tires this can be done on the cheap as there are plenty of used wheels around to beat up on track days just pair them with a good tire combo. this would be true for any car,the cost of constantly buying a tire that you used for both purposes would be insane

yes a wrx is far more stable than a RWD thats the advantage of AWD,grip by the truckload

launching a wrx takes finesse and you will need to learn the proper way to accomplish it the gest of it is sacrificing the clutch instead of the drive train and slipping the clutch.

maintaining the car is no different than any other obviously if you are doing some sort of track use you are decreasing the life of the car over all and increasing wear and tear on consumables that holds true for ANY car so thats somthing you will have to come to terms with in whatever car you choose you should be tread shaving and matching sets on a FWD,AWD and RWD for track use aswell,so to reiterate
buy dedicated track and DD wheel /tire sets.

no pet peeves.but you will have to make changes to the car no matter what to match the type of track use you want it for.

the wrx is a great clubman road race and autox car and wins world wide in these events consistently check scca website for results aswell as surfing nasioc for race results.

Q: Subaru WRX question =)?
So im trying to decide between some cars on what to own as a track car. Mainly between a miata and a wrx for canyon weekend rides, and once a month track events. Since this is the WRX area, i had some indepth questions about owning a WRX.

A: WRX are cheap to maintain and for racing. Tires last longer because it is AWD.
It keeps glued down better, has better traction with power in 4 tires.

It does not oversteer since it is AWD.
It understeers a little, which means it does not turn as hard as you want. Just slow down to turn harder in that case.

No known problems with this car. Very reliable.

Q: Are cold air intakes bad for your car? (mustang)?
I own a 1994 ford mustang gt 5.0 HO with 110000 km on it, and i want to put a bbk cold air intake on it and i was wondering if it is at all bad for the engine or will cause any damage

Thanks for you help

A: Don’t expect any real performance improvements from a cold air intake. They are just eye candy. Just a gimmick to sell you a fancy air cleaner that you don’t really need. They may possibly flow air a little better, but no gains are from cold air. Here’s why.

First, you need to think of your engine as an air pump. If your 5.0 liter engine had the perfect cylinder heads, perfect camshaft, largest possible valves, perfect intake manifold, at 4200 RPM when it makes its maximum power, it can only flow about 367 CFM of air. I doubt you have these perfect engine components, so the engine flows considerably less, as much as 25% less. It’s not as though you are feeding a big block V8 with a big Holley carburetor. So how much airflow do you really need? In addition, believe it or not, the factory engineers designed your stock air intake including the stock air filter to supply the engine with more than enough air.

Next, you need to examine the throttle body and the tube that connects it to the air filter housing. I will use my car as an example. The engine is a common multi port fuel injected, 3.1 liter V6. On this engine, if you measure the diameter of the throttle plate, it is 2.035 inches (52 millimeters). If you measure the diameter if the stock pipe that connects the throttle body to the air filter housing, it is 3 inches, (76 millimeters). Since the stock pipe connecting the throttle body to the air filter is already 50% larger than the throttle plate, adding an even larger pipe will not flow any more air than can already pass through the throttle bore. No real improvements here unless you also add a larger throttle body and enlarge the throttle opening in the intake manifold.

If you examine the stock air filter housing you will see that it draws its air from an opening in the radiator core support, drawing air from in front of the engine compartment. This air is already relatively cool. No gains found here.

The name “Cold Air Intake” is very misleading. On a cold air intake, even if it has some kind of intercooler, it will NOT cool the air any cooler than the ambient outside air temperature. Also, consider that the air passes quickly between the air filter and the throttle body, too quickly to absorb any significant amount of heat. With a V8 engine, you gain about 1 horsepower for every 10 degrees Fahrenheit drop in temperature. Therefore, even if you could drop the incoming air 50 degrees, you gain a measly 5 horsepower. These gains are proportionately less on smaller 4 or 6 cylinder engines. Therefore, they are hardly worth the expense.

Another thing to consider is that your engine is equipped with an EGR (Exhaust Gas Recirculation) valve. This device dumps between 5% to 15% hot exhaust gas from the exhaust manifold directly into the intake manifold. This exhaust gas is over 1200 degrees F. A cold air intake can’t make a difference over this extremely hot gas. Your engine is tuned to operate with this so it is not a problem.

The air filter used in the cold air intake is the only component that may give you any real improvement. In general these air filters will flow a little more air than the stock paper disposable element, but only if they are routinely cleaned and oiled. If they are allowed to get dirty, they will work no better than the stock paper air filter.

Q: Are short ram intakes bad for your car?
The one I am interested in buying has a heat shield. Is it bad since it’s not getting cold air like a cold air intake? Where I live it floods kind of bad some times, so I heard it’s best to go with a SRI. I also heard that a SRI is bad because it is sucking hot air. This one has a heat shield that helps it suck in cool air. Thank you in advance.

Heres a picture. Copy and paste link.

http://kandn.com/images/l/69-1013TS.jpg

A: That is the BEST choice for street use.

The heat shield makes that sort of a modified cold air intake.

===
Actually I was at the book store and I was reading about high performance Honda. And the book says that both short air intake and cold air intake suck in ambient temp once the car gets moving – there’s a lot of air being circulated under the hood.

His only advice is NOT to get metal tube air intakes. The get hot and transfer the heat to the air. Plastic tubes also get hot, but they don’t transfer the heat as much.
===
I have CHEAPY short air intake and they work great. I don’t even have the heat shield.

Good Luck…

Q: Is it bad to put an aftermarket intake on a car? Can break down on something?
So i have an aftermarket cold air intake for my 2000 Jetta VR6 that I have just bought. In fact its this one:

http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=120448196511&viewitem=&sspagename=STRK%3AMEWNX%3AIT#ht_1875wt_1263

and well many people tell me that its bad for your car and that it can break down or do something bad to the engine because of to much air or I don’t really know but there are people that tell me its ok and that I should worry. but I really want to kow if its bad or is it safe to put one of these on. Any thoughts are welcomed adn aprreciated thanks.

A: No problems. Not much help for performance either.

Q: are performance programmers bad for your engine?
i have a 95 nissan 200sx with a GA16DE engine. i want to add more HP.i have a Cold air intake, 4.2.1 headers with flowmaster exhaust… one of my next ideas is a hypertech performance programmer (or something similer). i read in an article that performace programmers area terrible for your car. please let me know if i should invest in 1! thanks

A: Yes specially if not approved by vehicle manufacturers.
Guess they are ok for Competition what ever the costs.

Q: K&N oiled Air Filters vs. dry filter???
Ok so i currently have a K&N cold air intake on my 2001 Nissan Xterra. Ive been hearing rumors about how the oil used in the filter is bad for your car and i also have a feeling its not filtering very well.
I am wondering if it would be better to replace the filter (part # RX-4750) with a dry filter?
Does AEM make a universal DRY FLOW filter that will fit on my already installed intake?
Also what are the stats. for k&n vs. others? (CFM)

Please help out as best you can and only useful answers PLEASE!
thanks
Thanks David B… but when ever i take off the filter for cleaning there is a little sand/dust on the INSIDE of the filter and around the rubber rim. Everything is on tight and there are no tears or major defects in the filter.
are there any filters though that will work better than the k&n? Not oiled?

A: Big debate, The oiled air filter does cause problems with some vehicles equipped with a Mass Air Flow (MAF) sensor. It can cover the sensing portion with oil and dirt. This can cause the sensor to malfunction and increase emissions and potentially damage the catalyst. I am a K&N fan for high performance high flow filter systems for off-road. The engines are rebuilt nearly every other run (50-100 miles). The damage that may occur if the filter allows too much dirt to pass will be internal in the engine and could cause premature failure of the piston rings, cylinders and bearings.
It’s buyer beware and now you’ve been given some facts.
Check the specs of the K&N against the OEM as far as the size of particulates allowed. (# of microns)

Q: more power….?
what is the best way to increase power on your car without having any bad effects to your car….. i heard K&N air filters are bad in the long run for your car and cold intake is bad if water is sucked in………an ideas…….i heard many but havent found out what i would want to do????
its a 2007 nissan altima 2.5L

A: Not enough info in your question.Need to know more about what kind of vehicle, engine, trans.?

Q: Can i drop a V8 in a car that has a V6.. performance upgrade?
I have a 2001 dodge stratus with a little v6 in it..

I was wandering if i pull a V8 out of an old caddy or something would i be able to take my v6 out and drop the V8 in or would it be to big or whatever??

im trying to find some cheap ways to increase the performance of my car..

so please leave your suggestions about what i could do..

i heard a cold air intake system would help but im not to big with car mechanics.. only car audio!!

when i first got the car me and my buddy drilled some holes in the are filter cover to make the car sound meaner lol.. was prolly a bad idea..

im trying to stay within like 400 $$ for upgrades..
I have noticed the throttle responce is kinda lame too..

how do i fix that??

A: Poor Man’s Hot Rod V6? That’s up my alley. I took a 3.1L TPI V6 in my 1991 Firebird and did a few minor upgrades on the engine for just under $400 total. Sounds like your friend is “Old School” by drilling holes in the intake, but they have to be on the outside of the air filter to avoid trouble.

K&N or Air Hog air filters will be a big help. Usually $40-$80. Flowmaster Exhaust $350 will be the biggest increase of about 25HP. I would stay away from NOS on the Dodge and GM engines. The 100 HP boost is too much for the stock motor and transmissions.

Q: How much for my car if i tried to sell?
Dodge Avenger (ES model) 2000 v6 2.5L

(the bad)
97k miles
i think i’m the 2nd or 3rd owner of this car
lots of body scratches on the front of the car especially down towards the front lip
headlights fog up from the outside whenever it has rained
underside of car is very rusted, parts of exhaust might need replaced due to holes/leaks, very rusted on mid-section of exhaust
missing cover to cruise control but still works, still has a light up switch you can press
some residue from removing window tint (from a previous owner) but i removed as much as i could
trunk has major indentation where the sub woofer sits above the spare tire
tiny drops of superglue on inside of the door panels where i was re-sealing the panels together because they were squeaking very badly before (it’s been over a year of no squeaks now).
rather loud exhaust could be due to the hole/holes forming (no rattling)
door speaker panels have holes cut out in them where i’ve attached the aftermarket speaker covers to (it does look good, i made sure to take my time and use a dremel tool)

(the good)
drives really well
gets anywhere from 22-29 mpg depending on how my driving style is (on average around 24-25 mpg)
mostly highway miles (about 75% of the miles i’ve put on)
i’ve owned it only for the last 30-35k miles and tried to take good care of it for the most part
sound dampening installed in trunk and side door panels from a previous owner
no stains in the carpet or leather at all
original floor carpet mats still perfect condition (all 4 of them)
all seat belts work great, no problems
no squeaking while turning
spark plugs replaced with high end iridium plugs which will last a long time
i installed a cold air intake and a bypass valve towards the top so even if you run over water it will not suck it into your engine (that is Why i installed the valve) also the cai can be changed into a short ram if needed the lower section can be removed and filter can be connected in the engine bay.
headlights are silverstar ultras (i think that is the highest they offer)
fog lights are very bright, never gone out on me, and the switch still works great
bright beams are a bluish tint, and very bright, they work amazing.
door speakers and tweeters on top of dash have been replaced with polk audio
pioneer cd/mp3 player i installed
also i installed a ipod connection and dremeled a small hole with the ipod cord coming out right next to the pioneer player (connects directly to bottom of any ipod and shows song names and allows to choose on pioneer player and charges ipod while connected)
all 4 tires were purchased about 2 years ago and professional install
new front brakes and rotors last year
new rear brakes and rotors just this last weekend (higher end parts then shops normally install) i also replaced all the bolts/pins and greased them up very well when installing because old ones were rusted to nothing
car runs smoothly, switches gears perfectly – very slight hesitation i think in the lower gears
all blinkers/lights work/horn works/sound system works amazing

kbb private party value=
+- $2,700

what do you guys think it is worth if i could even manage to sell it?

A: I don’t know but I do have a tip, fill in those holes in your exhaust if you can. I actually broke off the pipe to my muffler on my truck and I fixed it and it sounded much better. If you try to sell a car that is loud like that you may lose some people quick. Go to the local hardware store and they should sell a sealant to fill in the holes to your muffler.

I think you can get whatever the “okay” price is on KBB for the car. When I first read this it sounded like the car was about to fall apart, then I reread it and it really doesn’t sound too bad. Without pictures though I can’t really say too much. I bet you may even be able to get the “good” price on KBB. Just clean it up and make it look real nice when you try to sell it. And if you have an ad on craigslist don’t go into so much detail about the bad and summarize the good.

Q: What’s better for my chrysler 300c?
So I’m getting a Chrysler 300c (2005). It’s the 3.5L V6 engine. Now before wasting your time and saying “Don’t even do that to this car, it’s not meant for modifying” or things like that, STOP. I’m not asking if i should or shouldn’t. Don’t waste your time and get reported for your unwanted answers. Thanks. Now, my question is, for this car, should I get a cold air intake, or Short ram intake? I’m not worried about the cost. I’ve heard that cold intake could be risky in the case that water gets into it. But i’m not sure what to get. Suggestions?
I live in MD, rain isn’t bad here.

A: i would go with the short ram intake….the CAI’s air temperature is not any significant difference. there is a chance of sucking up water, but you’d have to be in a pretty deep puddle and you’ll probably need new carpet as well haha, so the water isnt much of an issue. the difference is the performance. the “cold” air will make a difference in air temp if you were running hard and for long periods of time like a 24hrs of le mans or something like that. but generally the temp is about the same.

put a 3inch straw in your mouth and breath through it, then put a 6inch straw with a bend in it in your mouth and breath through that one….your car will see better performance from the short ram.

it will also be a lot easier to check/change your filter with the short ram location. it wont be hidden down in a hole somewhere your arm doesn’t fit too well.

Q: 1998 honda civic ex 2dr 117xxx miles for $2,000. is it a good buy?
im interested in buying the car but i dont know if the mileage is bad for the type of car it is. can you please tell me if this is a good buy or not? it comes with a carbon fiber hood, aem cold air intake, a/c, p/l, alarm. to me with all of those things its worth it but if the engine just ends up breaking down on me in a month or so, it would just be a waste of money. also for those of you with hondas, whats the most mileage you have on your car and it still doesnt give you any problems? thank you very much for your help

p.s. if the mileage on the engine is bad, what engine could i swap it with and about how much would it be?

A: i would get a safety inspection on the car, and if it turned out ok i would get it

i have a ‘96 civic (same generation) and it’s great

Q: need more help!!!?
i have a 2002 gli and when i bought it, it came with a nueospeed cold air intake and the check engin light and epc light has been on and when i checked the code it said mass air sensor and i was wanting to know if it was then intake setting it off or if it is just bad if anyone has ever had this problem can you help me other or if you just know the answer will you help me thank you for your time. p.s. what is my car a mk3 mk4 mk5 thats all i see at web sites and i have no clue what gen. it is and its a vr6 so that means it a 12v right.can someone help thank you.

A: Vw Jetta mk 4 debuted in jully 1998.Mk 5’s production began in january 2005….so your car is a mk4.there are two VR6 engines:one with 12 valves(makes 174 bhp and 181 ft·lb torque) ,the other with 24 valves (makes 204 bhp and 205 ft·lb torque). For the MAF problem go to http://forums.vwvortex.com/zeroforum?id=4 look if you can find a similar problem or post a new topic and someone will definetelly help you with their best advices(it is a very good vw forum

Q: CAR ALMOST WANTS TO START – tell me the little stopping it from starting, please!?
Okay, my compression reads 153, 153, 153, 135 on a cold engine not started for a month. The vehicle practically starts (a little rough for 1 second) then shuts off. Here’s what I notice: When I keep my fuel pump relay in and turn the key to ignition about 3 times (without starting) and then floor the accelerator, the vehicle starts pretty good at times then dies after a second. After that it won’t try to start again (good cranking though) unless I repeat the same sequence.

Should I be thinking fuel injectors, or fuel pressure, or could it be air intake? Keep in mind that I did a code reading that output P-0107 MAP/BARO circuit low input – which referred to the MAP sensor being bad… well, I changed that and the vehicle still didn’t start. Thanks for your willingness to help!
Thanks to many of you that offered help; although, I left some details out for fear of not making my question too look.
The vehicle is a 1999 Olds Alero, 2.4 DOHC, 150k. No, it’s not the fuel pump, or battery, or spark… these are preliminary test anyone who’s messed with a car knows how to perform… Also, I’m not flooding the vehicle when I floor the pedal, in fact, when I don’t floor it doesn’t do the periodic start that it does. It’s like it’s getting too much gas at first and not enough after! Also, 153, 153, 153, 135, is not a pattern of compression that’ll cause a no-start: to that user who thought he/she’d be a smart-ass.
Now, I’m thinking fuel filter or injectors. Someone mentioned a vacuum leak, I think I will discard that idea as well, because with of compression the vehicle should at least start, but run sh*tty afterwards with a vacuum leak.

Thanks again, guys, and I’m open for more insights.

A: I would do a tuneup first, not knowing what year/make/model you asking about.

Q: HELP PLEASE!! URGENT!! HELP HELP!! Nissan car going crazy!!?
HELP HELP HELP HELP HELP!!!!!!

1993 Nissan Quest GXE V6 (VG30E)

Please can someone tell me whats wrong with my car? I took the car to a mechanic to change the valve cover gaskets (both), clean the fuel injectors (the intake manifold was removed to reach the back 3 injectors), and the timing belt.

The symptoms my car is having are the next:

1. In cold start, when I turn on the engine, the revs start to hesitate and after about 4 seconds they are in normal idle speed (750 rpm).

2. When I accelerate normally and then take my foot OFF the gas pedal (in 2nd gear, and sometimes still in 1rst gear), the REVs start to “OSCILLATE” from 1,000 rpm to almost 400 rpm! When the REVs come near 400 REVs, the car SHAKES and vibrates for about a second and a half, meaning that the car may stall! The oscilations are: 1000-400-1000-400-750 rpms. After that, the car starts to idle at normal idle speed, 750rpm.

Im thinking that the reason may be:

   a. Bad installation of the gaskets. Vaccum leak. Air is entering or leaving the intake manifold because of a bad gasket installation? I asked the mechanic: “Hey, what about the intake manifold gasket? Did you replaced it with a NEW one?” and he said it was NOT necessary since the gasket was a “metallic gasket” and it can be used AGAIN. Is that OK to do? Ive been told that everytime you seperate 2 metallic components, you should put on a NEW gasket!

  b. Bad timing. He replaced the timing belt. I asked him about if he syncronized the distributor with the camshaft and the crankshaft (by looking at the timing marks in the belt and the sprockets), and he said “if it was not syncronized, the valves in your engine wee to hit the pistons”. I know THAT may happen if timing is wrong, but BUT what if the piston is NOT reaching the TDC and the spark is starting before the REAL TDC? My car is lacking some power.

   I replaced the 02 sensor.
Replaced the air filter. The filter it had before was SMALLER, so some dirt and dust was getting into the engine! This affects the engines life! Dont know WHY it had a smaller airfilter! The car was crashed and maybe the reapir guy put he WRONG filter.
Replaced the fuel filter.
Repalced spark plug wires. SEIWA. The stock wires were SEIWA too.
The Injectors were cleaned, and tested and came out OK.

Replaced spark plugs. First the car was runnning with brand new NGK spark plugs, and after I told the mechanic the car was lacking power EVEN AFTER all the replacement were done to the car, he said:
1rst. The NGK spark plugs are OK.
2nd. After couple weeks, the car stil was lacking power, then he said the NGK spark plugs were wroong, he replaced them with Denso. The car is still lacking power! and the MPG is nasty!

I HAVE ANOTHER QUESTION: There is a BOLT that is connected to the distributor (not inside the distributor) and near the power transistor (its not the power transistor mounting bolt). A mechanic once told me that THIS BOLT is a sort of “adjustment bolt”. According to the position (left or right) of the bolt, that would be the ANGLE of the ignition, im guessing maybe the TDC angle? In spanish they call it “ojo chino” since it looks like a chineese eye! Is a sort of “oval washer connected to a part in the distributor”. So, what Im getting to is that BEFORE the timing belt was replaced, THAT BOLT was in the middle of that “oval washer”. and AFTER the timing belt was replaced, the bolt is all the way to the right! I took some photos before I took the car to the mechanic to make some BEFORE-AFTER comparisons after replacement of parts.

DOES ANYONE KNOW WHAT BOLT IM TALKING ABOUT?

So my concern is:

LACK OF POWER. Feeling some small vibration coming from the gas pedal everytime I push on it. Feeling like its running rough. After driving this car for over 3 years now, I KNOW THERE IS SOMETHING WRONG with the engine power! I remember a couple years before, when I accelerated ALL THE WAY, all the pedal to the floor, the car WAS REALLY STRONG AND FAST (i know its a minivan), but it has the same engine as the pathfinder, so it should be strong. Now I accelerate, and the ratio REVs/acceleration is not really the same as before. The revs go UP, but the car moves slower than before!

BAD MPG! The car is doing about 13-15 mpg in city!!

OSCILLATIONS in the REVs as described before.

What if the timing belt was installed incorrectly? What if its not syncronized the way it should be with the distributor and TDC piston?

A: I am leaning towards a sensor issue more then anything well to begin with. Like a EGR sensor. But then a vacuum leak is very possible. Would love to see what you mean by shorter air filter. This is why you don’t want to do a lot of work suddenly because it is very hard to back track. Take it to a different mechanic or the dealership that has the electronic equipment to check your computer. Get a estimate on what they recommend and run it by the mechanic. Me myself would have them fix it not him.
Get a estimate at a shop that knows better. That is all I can tell you without looking under the hood or plugging anything in myself.
Goodluck

A: Not a lot of miles, but with all the modifications it has been probably raced…

A: Dude, sounds great on paper..

I’ve seen Honda’s and toyota’s with 300,000+ miles. The freakin’ cars rust away before the engine dies if you take good care of them.

But with the parts on it, it sounds like it hasn’t been treated nicely, unless the hood was put on strictly for cosmetics.. But I doubt it.. Simply because of the cold air intake..

It was probably owned by some ass who was trying to make his Civic look “Cool and BADASS LIKE FAST AND FURIOUS LOLOLOL”… But didn’t have money to even halfway put a start in it.

What color’s the hood? Primer?

Offer him 1200.

Q: 3000gt vr4 start problem?
when i try to start my 3000gt it would not crank or nothing until u try a couple of times. its like u would hear a click from the ignition or something. Then it would start right up easy after like 6-10 tries of turning the key.

A: Replace the starter motor assembly. The clicking you hear is probably the starter solenoid engaging the starter gear into the flywheel. The solenoid contacts are bad and the motor is not getting any B+ until you constantly click the contacts to break through the carbon pitted crust. It’s probably cheaper to just install a rebuilt starter assembly then to try and replace just the starter solenoid.

Q: 3000gt vr4?
I wanted to buy but i heard it was plauged with mechanical problems.

I was wondering what kind of problems and how hard to fix are they

A: hey man i have two stealths, and can tell you they each have their own personality, and problems. Check out www.3si.org it is a national organization of owners. spend some time in the forums and learn all you need to know before you buy a wonderful car that always wants some attention.

Q: 3000gt vr4 problem starting it?
sometime not all the the time i have troubles starting it it will turn over and then just shuff off again randomly unless i pump the gas and it sounds horrible when i do that it sounds liek i have 4 drops of gas or somthing. it i thought it was the spark plugs but i just put some new ones in and it still does it. could it be i need new wires or is it somtihng to deal with it not havining enough gas(its done it to me even after filling it up half way) sometiems it cranks up fine but 5 times out o 10 it will do that or jump between 300 and 1000 for a minutes and then regulate. my idel is pretty high to at 1500 sorry but i wanted to make it as detailed as possible

A: A screwy idle means your O2 sensor has bit the dust. Also, it might be time for a new fuel filter. If you can’t remember when it was last replaced, change it out.

Also, chances are that you’re in need of an oil change too. That can cause a car that is difficult to start

Q: My 91 3000gt vr4 wont start. its not getting fuel to the engine. what could be the problem?
i have replaced the pump, that wasnt it. i cant hear the pump when i turn the key to the on position, but my test light tells me that the pump is getting power. 3000gt’s dont have a fuel shut off system either, anyone have any ideas?

A: get a fuel rail pressure gage and plug it into the fuel rail to see if you’re getting fuel at the motor-could be a simple fuel filter that is plugged or you have something in the tank hooked up wrong at the pump itself – I’ve seen them leak there and not know cause the gas just goes right back in the tank. either way if you’re getting power than the only thing left to check is pressure.

Q: 1992 Mitsubishi 3000GT VR4 wont pass emissions test?
I have a 1992 Mitsubishi 3000GT VR4 and it will not pass the emissions test.
The problems with the car is that, I know that one of the turbos has a small oil leak and smokes a bit, Also I know that the oxygen sensors are going and i can replace them, And the catalytic converter is going and i can also replace it.

I was wondering if i changed the oxygen sensors and the catalytic converter if it would pass the emissions test.

I don’t want to replace the turbo yet just to have it pass emissions

A: my answer is try to check it out on this site http://www.autozone.com/ it’s help

Q: Mitsubishi 1998 3000gt problems?
What problems do 1998 mitsubishi 3000gt have, I am going to buy the car but do they cost a lot t fix if something goes wrong with it?
Not SL or Vr4, just the base model. I heard something about the twin cams going wrong and it has a lot of problems, but I can not find if a base 3000gt has problems or has a twin cam.

A: a car should have no problems unless you(the driver) creates one,

mileage is a factor, even with normal usage a high mileage car will give you problems

here is an edmunds reliability report on your vehicle you may find useful

Q: how to improve gas milage on mitsubishi 3000GT VR4?
I recently bought a 1998 Mitsubishi 3000GT VR4 and it’s my 1st car, I’m 17. The only problem I’m having with the car for the very short time i had it (1 week) is that the gas milage isn’t that great. I think i get about 16-18′ish mpg driving in the city, or 22-24 on the highway.

Is it possible to improve this? I’ve read people can do some tune up… need some help thanks

A: that is a thirsty car anyway.
presuming all is in good order and the tires properly inflated.you have to drive slow to achieve economy driving.

the trick is to keep the engine refs under 2000 rpm and even less on the free way,s 1500/1600 rpm should keep you at speed and provide the best economy for you.
that,s all there is to it.
don,t let the rpm,s go to the maximum.
driving style will say a lot about fuel consumption.
the rpm,s suggested might seem low but that,s why it works.
drive without stalling the engine but don,t surge either.

Q: Buying a 3000gt vr4 what should i look for.?
I’ve read up and know a good deal about these cars but i’ve never owned one. What i’m asking is about the features between the 2 gens… I’m not worried about the boost difference because i will be running a control. I’m wondering more about the 5 speed vs the 6speed.. and the options i would get active aero, tunable exhaust and so forth… What should i look for and what has problems?
A spyder is the hard top convertable.. I’m building a race car and do not need the extra weight

A: Find $5000 for all the maintenance it needs BEFORE you tilt at windmills in a VAIN attempt to make it go faster.

Q: vr4 3000gt?
I wanted to buy but i heard it was plauged with mechanical problems.

I was wondering what kind of problems and how hard to fix are they

A: They are abundant with the opportunity to exercise my mechanical genius.

Q: 3000gt vr4 dies or stalls when I press on the clutch. Fine when I don’t. What is going on?
I have a 94 vr4 and the car starts fine, but makes a bad noise when I’m on the clutch so I let go and leave it in neutral before it dies. It idles fine and no noise. Once I press on the clutch to put it in gear it makes noise and stalls out. What I have to do is rev it a bit, and then put it in gear and it drives. Once I drive its fine, unless i press on the clutch and then the same thing happens. A friend told me it might be a clutch plate.. I searched and some said it was something with the clutch switch, others say its the Idle speed control. It seems to me more like a clutch problem but it seems to still grab pretty hard. Any help would be much appreciated. Thanks

A: Thats a tough one with out being there to analyze. My guess is between the iac(idle air control sensor) or clutch plate.. leaning more towards the clutch since its making a noise, the clutch should be checked asap since you don’t want that leading to damaged gears in the tranny. Check the master clutch cylinder as well.

Q: 93 mitsubishi 3000gt problem?
i have a 1993 mitsubishi 3000gt dohc its not the vr4 tt just the v6 but im having a problem when driving my car for about an hour or sometimes it happens right away my rpms will drop down to nothing and the engine will start to shutter and i have no power it does this intermittantly though. so far i have replaced the crank position sensor which didnt fix it and i replaced the engine coil packs because the dealership said coil 2 was failing which was causing cylinder 2 and 5 to not work but after replacing the coils it still hasnt fixed the problem help!!

A: Pull the computer and remove both covers to check the capacitors for leakage onto the circuit board. Any burn marks or leakage and you will need a new ECU.
Check fuel pressure.
Make sure you have NGK plugs, your motor takes platinum or iridium plugs. Bosch, Autolite, etc will cause misfires and should never be used!

Q: 1991 Dodge Stealth R/T TT transfer case vs. 1992 Mitsubishi Galant VR4 AWD transfer case?
OK…..got a good question for the Import/Tuner crowd out there…….here goes……I’m considering buying a 1991 Dodge Stealth R/T twin turbo. The guy that has it for sale is offering it a ridiculously low price because it has a thrashed transfer case and also needs the front drive shaft (i’ve already looked at the car and verified that this is the problem) ….I have searched and searched and searched online and locally for a used transfer case, but I can’t find one that is decent shape (i.e. not needing rebuild) for under a grand……HOWEVER, i have locally sourced a 92 mitsubishi galant VR4 Turbo AWD parts car with a blown engine……Now, I know that the dodge stealth R/T TT and mitsubishi 3000gt VR4 were essentially the same car, same engine, drivetrain, etc…but are the drive trains in the stealth R/T TT and galant VR4 AWD the same? similar?………would it be possible to use the transfer case from the galant without modification? or would I have to do some modification/ fabrication? will it even work ??

A: im not claiming to be an expert on the matter, but do some searching on the VIN numbers and see which characters relate to the drivetrain then see if they match up. im going to guess and say yes they will line up and work, but dont hold me to it. good luck

Q: How reliable is the Mitsubishi 3000gt?
I’ve heard a lot that they are very non-reliable, and should stay away from them. How reliable are they really? Typical malfunctions/problems they have? etc.

My son wants a Toyota MR2, but it’s not practical and they are too old. We might meet halfway with the 3000GT, (not the VR4 model) since a lot of them have low miles and go under 10K. I’d just like to gain some decent knowledge of the car. Also what about the drivetrain on a non-VR4 5spd? I’ve seen either FWD or AWD for the 3000 in general. Thanks

A: http://www.carsurvey.org/model_Mitsubishi_3000GT.html

I think there great cars but i have only driven one once so it would be unfair to judge a car on that alone,so i have added a link it where me and the wife go when where changing our vehicles, due to the fact it has reviews from owners and not sellers whom are just telling you the good points.Hope it helps.

Q: what is a scions tc quarter mile?
what does it rune because i want to get rid of my 3000gt vr4 because it has way to many problems so i was thinkin to make a tc my next car and of course upgrade it as i did my vr4 but i would like 2 know what a tc does stock quarter mile

A: About 15 secs, stock. You can improve that with a CAI and header. tC’s are plenty fast enough for the street. Heck, we do have limits ya know. ModifyMyScion.com sells lots of cool upgrades at great prices if you want to see what is available. The tC is also efficient and very reliable!

Q: what is the best car for a 16 year old driver?
here are some of my choices
Mitsubishi 3000gt vr4
dodge stealth vr4
Nissan 300zx TT
and Mazda rx7

but my mom said i should just keep her 1999 mustang saleen but i had problems with it 1st of all i can’t maintain my speed because it’s so tempting 2nd it’s a rare car on which i don’t want to crash it and 3rd it’s the hottest car my friends ever rode into so some how it has some sentimental value

so can anyone give me some list of cars on which a 16 year old kid actually deserve i kinda like sports car or any coupe cars so please i need help!!! but if you prefer a sedan give me reasons why..
i dont really need a high powered car i just want a nice car

A: Stealth and the 3000gt are deffinately NOT the same car, yes very similar though.

I can’t believe your mom would let you drive her SALEEN!! That’s my dream car btw (f the supercharger though, i would twin turbo it once i found a manifold to cover up where the sc was) with the Molly pop paint job…

Anyway, I kinda see what you want though, not a loser car but something reasonable, look into the subaru impreza wrx its turbo but not as fast as the wrx sti, my brother in law has an sti, its been fixed up and omg its quick. Maybe look into a mustang gt, camaro SS or dodge neon srt4 they should be reasonable and cool enough to drive to school. I’m assuming you can drive standard, and if you can’t, you should learn.

Hope that helps : )

edit: Just because your young oesn’t mean your going to wreck your car, just be careful and defensive but dont think your invinsible, accidents do happen. I’ve had the same car For 3 years now and not a dent or scratch on that car has come from me. I bought (and when i say “i bought”, I worked at whataburger to make the payments) a ‘99 V6 mustang when i was 16 and i’ve had it ever since. Now I’ve rebuilt the engine, transmission and im getting ready to twin turbo it, as well as a few other modifications, i love it, and its paid off.

Q: Crossmember don’t line up to transmission?
I had a 350 trans and it lined up but now I have a 2004r trans and It won’t line up with the crossmember. What should I do?It’s a 1984 Olds Cutlass

A: The 200r4 is a little longer. Mount the cross member to the transmission so that it is under the frame rails. Then move the cross member up to the frame rails and drill new holes. Drop it back down again and mount everything where it’s supposed to go.

Q: What transmission do I have ? , 88 GMC Jimmy, 4×4, 4.3 , S15?
Do I have a 700R4, or a 2004R? I don’t really know the difference, don’t know what the difference is.

A: if it’s 4wd,then it’s a 700r4.200’s were 2wd.count the number of bolts in the pan and try ordering a pan gasket.the parts house should confirm this.

Q: Suggested tranny for a 302ci; a T-5, T56, 3550/TKO, 3650, TH350, C4, C6, AOD, 2004R, 700R4, 4L60E, or a TH400?
I’m planning on building a ‘33 Hot Rod by Factory Five Racing and I’m wanting to use a Ford 302… but since I’m i novice i don’t know which transmission to use… please help me… thanks.

-Eric

A: almost all of thoes trans’ you listed are chevy but if your planning on going more then 450+hp keep with a c6 trans anything below that a c4 will do, they are also ford transmissions and they would be a top pick for auto. if you wanted to go manual trans then a a good 4 speed is a t-100 any saginaw or borg warner even a muncie trans such as a m21 or m22 muncie would be the way to go on a manual, and if you have the money a transzilla transmission is a t-5 ot a t-56 which is a 5 or 6 speed and will never blow up

Q: I’m redoing my 1983 Oldsmobile Cutlass?
I’m installing a 403 motor with 2004r transmission. I just bought some 4:10 reargears do I need to buy a differential case also or will the gears fit in the stock differential, and would posi improve the speed or takeoff

A: You bought a set of gears without knowing if they will fit ? Do not attempt to install them yourself , it is highly skilled work .A posi will transfer “power ” to both wheels evenly .

Q: Which transmission should I get? Details below.?
I have a 1981 El Camino with a mild 305 a TH-350 with 3.73 gears. I want a 3-speed overdrive trans. Which one of these three transmissions will be the eaiset to install? (which will use the same drive shaft hook ups etc.), the best for street/strip performance, and on gas milage? The 700R4, the 4L60, or the 2004R? I know that the first two are basically a TH-350. Any info will be appreciated thanks.
For got to add I am taking a cross country trip that will take a month so I need an overdrive to keep RPM down to save the engine.

A: GET A 350 TURBO IT WILL LAST THE LONGEST!! GOOD LUCK!!!

Q: Chevy Transmission don’t have modulator?
I have a chevy 305 & I’m taking my 350 trans out & putting a 2004R trans in.I notice that the 2004R don’t have a modulator on it so, what do I do about that line that suppose to run to the modulator?

A: You pull the fitting off the intake, buy the correct size pipe plug, and with teflon tape, you plug the hole with it.

The line for the trans, you remove. May even be able to get some money for it if it is the steel factory line, better than running a long hose.

Q: G-body crossmember question?
I’m working on a 1986 Olds Cutlass and replacing the 307 with a Chevy 305 and I’m going with a TH-2004R transmission. The Cutlass had a TH-200 in it. The mounting points on the TH-200 are about 6 inches from the tail of the trans and the TH-2004R is about an inch from the tail. Do these transmissions use the same crossmember, just bolted back more, or do I have to find a crossmember out of another G-body that had a similar transmission. I have the Cadillac frame, 80 some two door deville, still here that the transmission came off of, will it’s crossmember possibly work?
the caddys wasnt quite right so i grinded an inch off one side and made the holes deeper the engine is in and running thanks

A: check to see if the mount will work on your crossmember and if it will all you have to do is move the crossmember back on the frame where it fits the 200-4R, if the mount won’t fit on your crossmember all you have to do is take the one from the cadillac and cut the mounting part out of it and have it welded to your crossmember.

Q: 403 Oldsmobile build up?
Hello I’m building a oldsmobile 403 for my 85 cutlass and so far a have 2004r transmission built up wit 2500 stall 4 10 gears some edelbrock performer heads intake and 1200 to 5200 hydraulic cam. How much horse power and torque can I get from the combo and can I still use my computer that comes with my car

A: Ditch the computer. That CCC system is garbage, and is not something that is even worth trying to modify for the displacement change. Remember, that system is designed to work on a 307 cubic inch motor, only 100 less than what you have. Do you think a carb built just large enough for a 307 would be perfectly fine on a 403? Of course not.

You have two avenues to take: Convert the thing over to TBI from a big block chevy truck 1987-1995, or get an Olds Quadrajet from pre 1981. TBI is a lot of work, and will require you to get into tuning PROM’s, or paying someone to do so. The Quadrajet approach is easier.

Be careful with that motor. Back home I’ve got the main web of a 403 that was completely ripped out of the block making a run down the track. All later olds motors (1977+) have windowed main webs, and are quite weak. Not only that, the huge bore of the 403 means massive reciprocating weight, with relatively weak rods, and you WILL break parts eventually if you take it near 5000RPM.

Q: Where can i find a turbo kit for a 350ci sbc?
I have a ‘68 Chevelle with a 383 stroker, full roller, hydraulic cam/ lifters, ball bearing 2004r transmission, 12 bolt – 3.73. All pushing around 470 hp.

Im a whore for HP =X I need more more more =]

So, can anyone help me out with a vendor where I can get a turbo/ twin turbo kit for a 350ci sbc?

and no, im not tapping it for nitrous…nice try =] [then again maybe ill get crazy later and do this]

thanks in advance
-Daniel

A: No turbos for that engine as far as I know. You can get a bad ass super charger at summitracing.com though. Never seen a 383 with twin turbos. I imagine it could be done, but why not just get a super charger? It would add probably 40 HP.

Q: 200-4R transmissions?
I switched from a 350 trans to a 200-4R trans can anybody tell me what kind of torq conveter do i go with meaning a 350 or 2004r torq

A: Some information to keep in mind. The 200-4R is a lock-up transmission. You will need a way to control the converter lock-up to get the benefit of the overdrive. Also, the 200-4R transmission has a t.v. link which must be set correctly or the transmission will be destroyed. This cable is NOT a downshift cable. It controlls the shift points and pressures inside the trans. If the link is not set properly it will burn the clutch material out of all the clutchpacks. The lockup can be done with a toggle switch as long as you don’t forget to turn it off when not at highway speeds and when under hard acceleration. Above all make SURE the t.v. (throtle valve) cable is set correctly. This needs to be done by someone who knows what they are doing. Good luck and enjoy the gas yousave with the overdrive.

I have the Cadillac frame, 80 some two door deville, still here that the transmission came off of, will it’s crossmember possibly work?
http://www.maliburacing.com/auto_tranny_id.htm
Scroll down and you can see the different mounting points I have to work with
i dont want a 350 and the 305s price was right and prolly pushing the same horses as a mildly built 350 i got everything in there and its running…like driving on ice.
plus its going to be a lowrider

A: I did the TH-350 swap in my monte carlo and used the stock crossmember. not sure on the 200. If you have the motor out already, why not put a 350 in there. If your gonna build it up at all, start out right!
