Q: how do i get my hood open of my latch on the inside wont work acts like its stripped when i pull the lever.?
my 98 ford explorers hood wont open and when i try it wont do anything when i pull the latch. Is there any way i can jimmy it open and where can i get the parts to fix it? I’m currently stationed in Germany

A: sometimes they are released, you just have to push down gently and they will pop up.

or try a slim jim like used on a door, :)

Q: Why wont the hood on my car open?
i have a 2002 ford taures and the hood wont open anymore. i pull the hood release but nothing happens. whats wrong and how do i fix it?

A: Do you still feel resistance when you pull the handle? If not, the cable has broken and needs replaced. If you do, then the hood is just stuck and you can probably just go out in front of the car and bump it with the heel of your hand and it should pop up. You may need to have someone pull and hold the handle while you bump it, then release the handle. Just try a few different ways till it opens. If you can’ t make it turn loose, you will need to take it to a mechanic.

Q: I have a buick century and the hood wont open I tried pulling the lever and it didnt work i think its frozen.?
Do you have any suggestions on how i can unfreeze the hood or how i can pop the hood. Because my battery is dead and i need a jump

A: Get somebody to hold the hood latch open and then you give a couple of well placed firm but not hard enough to dent hits right in the centre of the hood at the very front (directly above where the latch would be located) it should pop up after a hit or two.

Q: my hood wont open, any tips to get it open?

A: Well all levers are different in different makes of cars it would help to know what make and model it is???

Q: My hood wont pop open on my 2000 Jeep Cherokee?
I went to pop the hood and the part that you pull inside the jeep when I went to pull it there was no resistance and it just pulled out and stayed out. My hood is shut all the way so im not really sure what to do. I am assuming the cable just came off of the piece you pull. Anything I can do?

A: check the pull handle to make sure the cable is connected to it. If so then you have a cable off somewhere else on the vehicle. Then you would have to somehow release the 2 side latches (located on the left front and right front near the wheel well under the hood more towards the front of the vehicle) then is sucessful, the hod should pop up a little and you can get to the center latch and open your hood. Once you have popped the hood just latch it so the first catch will engage it and get the vehicle into your mechanic or if you are a backyard mechanic the start tracing the cables. Hope this helps you out

Q: Hood wont open on 1985 Chevy Silverado – How can I fix it/ open in manually?
yep! that pretty much says it all! any help would be appreciated – thank you!

A: the cable may be broken. its a little awkward but you can reach the hood latch from under the trk. you have to get down and under and reach up between the grille and the radiator. feel for the latch and trip it or you can use a 13mm socket and take the 2 bolts loose that hold it.

Q: My cars hood wont open? my hood is completely closed?
I cant put my hand under my hood there is no room my hood release inside my car the rod is pulled out & when i try too push it back in its loose? There is no tug when i pull the hood release in the car.

A: If you go to a body shop they will probably help you get it open for free….they run into this often with cars that have front-end damage. Just be really nice and ask for an estimate for a new cable. Once it’s open you should be able to attach some wire to the latch and kind of hang it out the bottom of the car until you get it fixed.

Q: hood wont open, frozen maybe?
i was going to jump a neighbors car last week and tried to open my hood and it wont open. the lever seems to not have any resistance when i pull it. is it because i live in Minnesota and its extrememly cold and frozen? do i wait to let it thaw in the spring or take it into the car place or can i fix it myself?

A: ok it could bee the hood cable ,not working,, but if i froze, a hair dryer will do the trick,, are if you have a place to put the car in to warm it up will also help

Q: i have a ford probe and the lever you pull to open the hood wont work how can i open my hood without damaging?
i don’t want to do any damage to my hood but is there anyway i can like use a thin rod or knife or something to get it to pop open and then close without it getting messed up?

A: well have you tried to have someone bump it while you pull it…. first then you can reach under the grill and pul the latch sucks but thats the other way .. and once you get it open either oil it or adjust it so it works… the way you adjust is lower it and look and see where its hitting and more the locking latch over a bit not hard… best try the friend to help first then try reaching under the grill and pulling the cable

Q: my car hood wont open?
i have a 91 chevy camero and i broek down on me and when we tried to pop the hood it wont open and idk what to do. It was working until we towed it with a rope to my house which is like a 5 min drive where it broke down and now it wont open at all does anyone know what to do?

A: Hold the hood release and have someone else hit the hood firmly on top of where the hood latch is located. It should pop up then.

Q: Hood wont open..help?
My hood latch broke,so I rigged it so I could reach up behind the grill, and pull the chord so the hood would pop open, now the chord is gone!,..how can I get my hood open now?
Chevy Berreta if this helps any?

A: It depends upon the make. You will need to get up inside and access the hood latch to pull the area you had the chord attached to. You may need to remove an access plate to be able to reach inside.

Q: 2004 Chevy Silverado’s Hood wont open?
My stupid brother put the keys on top of the engine, while I had the hood open. Then I closed it, and my brother had left the keys inside. Pluss, he locked the cars doors, so I can’t open the hood again. And, I just got the car, so I don’t have a spear key. How can I open the hood? Anybody who has opened it from the latch, and succeeded, can you give the way to do it?

A: If you belong to AAA, then you can call them to come and open the truck. Then you can open up the hood. When they’re done, have the guy take your brother with him. :-)

Q: How to open a hood on Honda Civic that wont open?
I need to change my alternator, but my hood wont open. I thought the cable may be broke, but its not. I tried taking the fender off, but I can’t, because I have to open the hood for that. I can get it up far enough, to stick my fingers in there and move the latch that “should” open the hood. It does nothing though. So its caught on something and I dont know what. It feels like its caught on the latch though. So, now I can’t open my hood because I can’t get my fender off and I can’t get my fender off because I can’t open my hood and I can’t change my alternator, because I can’t do either of the other two things.

Any help, other then completely tearing off my fender or take it to a mechanic that will over-charge me and probably not know what they are doing anyway?
Thanks carguy, but I guess maybe I didn’t clarify. The “grill”/fender, won’t come off, because the hood doesn’t open! The screwes to get the grill off, are under the hood. Also, I CAN reach the latch and move the part that should open the hood!!! It does nothing though.
OMG! Am I unclear, or are people just not reading what I’m saying. I CAN REACH THE LEVER UNDER THE HOOD THAT OPENS THE LATCH, SO THE CABLE DOES NOT EVEN MATTER. ITS STUCK ON SOMETHING!

A: if you are talking about the lever you pull up on under the hood to pop it… that is a secondary latch that just keeps the hood down in case the primary fails, the cable is attached to the primary. You will need to get to the latch assembly not the lever under the hood. I have never dealt with this on a honda (yet) but it happened on my truck and I had to drop the bumper to make room so I could get leverage, my guess is you will have to do the same, the hood does not need to be open to remove the bumper. Once you drop the bumper you can lay down or kneel and reach up with some channel locks or something and pull on the cable AT the latching mechanism. Your bumper should only take about 30 minutes to drop, I dont know the year of your civic but on mine (88-91) all you would have to do is pull the front bumper blinkers and that would reveal the bolts that mount the bumper support on, before you loosen those be sure to remove the screws holding the plastic under fender guards on.

This is my best idea, perhaps you dont need to drop the bumper as long as you can get your arm up there with a tool and can get enough strength to break it loose. Good Luck!!
