convert manual to automatic transmission
A: The electronics involved make this virtually impossible unless you can get them to take the car on the TV show Overhaulin’ or something.
Q: Can you convert a manual transmission to automatic?
I’m thinking about buying a Eagle Talon TSi AWD (Chrysler equivalent of the Mitsubishi Eclipse GSX), but its comes with the 5 speed manual transmission. Is it possible to convert the car to an automatic transmission, since finding an automatic TSi AWD is extremely rare??
A: Don’t be lame, learn to drive a stick
Q: How to convert manual transmission to an automatic transmission in a car?
Just wondering. My dad told me its possible, but it would cost a couple thousand dollars.
A: depends on the car. all vehicles 1992 and newer have computer controlled transmissions so you would have to change wiring harness, computer, mounts, axles. if you had a donor car that had everything you needed it would still be labor extensive. if you could do the work your self its not bad but to pay a repair facility to do it would be expensive
Q: Is it possible to convert manual transmission car into automatic transmission car?
How many rupees I have to spent for this?
A: Actually, this is possible. I’ve seen it done. It takes a little spending, because the shifter must be changed, the engine must be changed, and of course the tranny must be changed. You’re basically looking at scrapping almost the entire working innards of the car, and customizing all the extras to fit a new transmission. Were talking rear axle, drive shaft, the works.
It’s only a feasible operation if you have money to burn, or just happen to have a buttload of auto parts laying around.
Q: Is it possible to convert a manual transmission into an automatic?
Would I be able to convert the transmission of my 1979 Pontiac Firebird Formula from a manual into an automatic? And if so, how much would it approx. cost?
A: As the others stated, you’d need to get a new transmission plus shifter and console hardware and linkage, a new brake pedal, etc etc – it would cost thousands. And when you’re done, you would actually have reduced the value of that car. Second generation Camaros and Firebirds are just starting to get noticed as collectibles. If your Formula is original and numbers matching, it will probably go up in value going forward. The vast majority of those cars were sold with automatics, so the ones with factory 4 speed manuals are worth more today and that gap will likely grow over time.
So – don’t ruin this car. If you don’t want to or can’t drive a standard, you’d be far better off to sell it and buy another than to change the tranny in this one.
Q: wht do you think the best thing to do?convert my automatic transmission to manual or get a surplus auto trans.
‘94 lancer glxi, automatic transmission which often slip and jerk hardly during its 20-50 km/h and aircon turn on.what should i do,where can i save more cost and rely much in term of years of peace of mind…and is it easy to convert a automatic to manual trans?
A: don’t convert it, repair or replace the trans in the car. changing it over to a manual may include changing the computer in the vehicle as well. would probably be more costly to convert. that being said, mitsubishi builds junk transmissions. make sure the fluid is full and make sure you have the proper fluid in it. mitsubishis are very sensitive to having the wrong fluid causing poor trans performance.
Q: Is it possible to convert a manual transmission to Automatic? Mazda3 Sp23?
So I found a Mazda 3 SP23 for a very good deal. Haven’t been able to find any that are even close to this. But its manual and I don’t drive manual. So is there any way I can go to a mechanic and have him convert it to a automatic transmission.
Even if it cost me like $3,000 I would still pay for it
Thanks
A: Let me start off by saying it CAN be done. But should it be done? No. It will cost you a lot more than $3000 to get it done properly. To get it done PROPERLY you would need:
The new auto transmission, a new PCM (ECU, ECM or w/e mazda calls it), new wiring harnesses, torque converter, trans cooler, trans cooler lines, new ATF fluid, the new shifter, take the old clutch pedal out, all new shift linkage, etc, etc.
These are just a few things that came off the top of my head. I know tere is a lot more that I’m not gonna bother to think of. Plus, I’ll guarentee that the mechanic will forget something. It’s not his fault, there is a lot to the job.
I helped my friend to a automatic to manual swap and it took hours and hours to get everything all figured out and done. We thought we covered everything, but at the end his ABS didnt work.
Q: Convert from automatic to manual transmission?
What is all needed to convert a car from automatic to manual transmission…like what parts
It is a 95 Thunderbird, and i do have someone that is willing to help me with it so thats not a problem, with that being the year and model, would i have to change the computer and wiring harness?
A: Depends on the car. Generally the differences between manual and automatic transmissions go far deeper than just the transmissions to the point where it would be more cost effective to simply sell your current car and buy a manual one.
Q: Is it expensive to convert an automatic transmission to a manual?
I have a car with an automatic transmission that I wish was a manual, but have been told it’s more expensive to convert an automatic to a manual than it is a manual to an automatic. Is that true?
A: The physical swap is the easy part if it’s a modern car the electronic swap is 10 times harder to get the wiring harness and computers to talk to each other. you’ll need the wiring harness and all the computers and sensors. you’ll also have to remove the automatic tranny and computer and sensors
Q: How much does it cost to convert an automatic transmission car to manual?
And do you think I can save more if i have 1 manual transmission car and 1 automatic transmission car and change each others parts?
I’ve seen lots of people do it.
A: It is not worth it unless it is a car that you love and you really want the manual tranny in it. It can be done. In fact my El Camino has been converted from an auto to manual. If the car you are wanting to convert is a pretty common car and available with a stick I would just sell or trade the auto car for the manual car.
Q: Can I convert Automatic to Manual transmission?
I have a 03 Ford Mustang and its Automatic. Can I covert it to a stick shift? How would I go about that and how much does it cost?Could it even be done?
A: Though I tend to agree with everyone else that it isn’t cost effective, you might want to run it by a dealership shop because if there is a straightfoward and easy way to do it they will be the ones to know.
At least find out how much of the job is just swapping out parts. If you really want this, then, at least the dearlership can point out the costs and items that need to be changed.
How about going to a Hydrastick instead? At least no clutch will be necessary.
Q: Can you convert a manual transmission into an automatic transmission?
is this a stupid question b/c I really have no clue. There is a certain car I like but I dont like the thought of having to switch gears I want it automatic.
thanks, all the answers are very good. why are people giving thumbs down on these answers? there is nothing wrong with any of them.
A: No, you can’t. You would have to change the whole transmission and it will cost a lot more than 700 or 800 bucks. Depends on the car, but at least $1,500 to as much as $4,000 – yeah, buy a car with an auto if that is what you want. By the way, the only stupid question is the one you don’t ask. How else would you know?
Q: I would like to know if it is possible to convert my automatic transmission into a manual transmission?
I have a 2000 Toyota Celica GT and I would like to know if my question is possible, and also if it’s possible to put a 20 valve engine instead of a stock GTS 16 valve, and if so please someone help me out and tell me what would be a good 20 valve engine to replace with my 16 valve GT and a manual transmission? Thanks to everyone who helps!
A: You can replace the auto trans with a manual trans. a lot of work,Different flywheel, install a clutch pedal, with a clutch switch so you don’t start in gear.reverse switch for back up lights. Trans mount supports Clutch cable brackets. Are you tired yet.Anything is possible if you have time and money.
Q: How do you convert a automatic transmission to manual for a 2002 Grand Prix GT?
I am looking for someone who would be willing to convert a 2002 Pontiac Grand Prix GT into a manual. Or if anyone knows anybody who will be doing it.Cost is no issue.
A: when you find someone and get it done let me know, I want a manual in my 2000 gtp…
Q: Can you convert a 2001 Kia Spectra GSX Automatic Transmission into a Manual Transmission?
I have a 2001 Kia Spectra GSX that is an automatic transmission, i was wondering how easy and how much it would cost to convert it to a Manual Transmission. is it possible? can a dealership do that?
A: A dealer probably wont touch that request and it would be so costly to do this swap you would be better off trading it in or selling it and just buying the car with a manual trans. if you have around $4,000.oo sitting around you could probably get it done. Trans swaps are usually on the pricey side.
