Q: Would a broken transmission mount cause the van to shake?
I dropped the transmission and realized that the transmission mount was broken in two. I orignally thought that the van shaking was because of the rear end being bad but am now wondering if it could be because of the mount

A: You’ve got it!! When an engine or trans mount breaks it causes a bad viberation in the vehicle. And when a trans mount breaks on a rear drive it’s real bad. Because it puts the drive shaft out of line. Ujoints have to have X # number of degrees not to bind and turn smooth. To few or to meny you get a bad vibration [shaking]. I advise replacing the ujoints as well as the mount. Take your shaft to a driveline shop and reinstall it yourself. That way installed joints and the shaft balenced is only about 90 bucks.

Q: How much is my car worth with a broken transmission?
I have a 1988 Saab convertible and the transmission broke. I know I can’t sell it as a working car, but I’m looking for a price to put it on ebay for. How much do you think I can get out of it? Brand new convertible top, leather interior, one dent, and I guess everything else is good. I just need an asking price please. I know I can get atleast $500 because the turbo engine alone is worth that.

A: Here’s what I would do. Go to Kelly blue book and find the price of your car with the current conditions and a working tranny. Then ask (which I’m assuming you already have) how much it would be to fix the transmission. Kelly blue book – transmission cost = aprox selling price.

Q: I am on a month to month lease extension with my car. Can i return it with a broken transmission?
My car, an 05 honda accord broke down on me. It has a transmission problem that kicks in when the car warms up.. I am over the warranty by 5000 miles. Can i just return the lease as is? Am i responsible for just the body work or also the engine? Any idea’s?
What if it works fine when they take it away but stops working 15 min later?

A: You can return the car as it is, but you will get a bill for the bodywork (if they consider it excessive damage), the transmission repair, and if you are over miles. Also, if the tires are worn and need replacing, you will get billed for that too. No way to tell how much they are going to charge you, though, until you get the bill.

If I were you, I would find an inexpensive repair shop to fix that sucker.

Q: If there is power tripping due to a broken transmission switchgear, what will happen to the generator?
Trippage happens everywhere on earth if there is electricity supply companies. A Generator run near the peak of its capability, ie. 80mW/h of 100mW/h. If that value state the real transmitted power to consumers trough series of substations and towers, what will happen to the genset if (let say no redundancy) the only primary transmission in the first substation tripped? Will it shutdown automatically or keep on running offload with/without loud and abnormal noise?

A: If its a steam unit the turbine stop valves will slam shut and the relief valves on the boiler will pop open.

if its a gas turbine unit the throttle valves slam shut along with the fire emergency valve in the fuel header line.

Either way the unit will shut down.

Q: Will powertrain warranty cover a broken transmission on my Isuzu?
My transmission needs an overhaul or replacing. I forgot about having a powertrain warranty and was wondering if that warranty will cover me? If so, do I need to bring it to the dealer or can another car repair shop help?

A: If you have a powertrain warranty still in effect, the only way to get it fixed is directly through the dealer. Call the dealer and give him your VIN and mileage and tell him what the truck is doing. He will be able to tell you if the truck is under warranty, but he won’t say whether your problem you are having is covered under warranty. He will say to bring it in. Tell him if it isn’t under warranty that you aren’t going to fix it, that way you won’t get a big bill from the dealer…….you can take it somewhere else. GOOD LUCK!

Q: Is it fine to drive on a broken transmission mount?
I drive about 30 miles a day and is waiting for the repair guy to call so he could fix it. is it ok to drive still? If so what would happen?
I drive about 30 miles a day and is waiting for the repair guy to call so he could fix it. is it ok to drive still? If so what would happen? the car is a 2006 mazda 3 hatch. and iv known about this for maybe 2 weeks! thanx!

A: Its ok to drive on that condition. But, as time goes by, u will find that is difficult to shift the gear caused by not correct position of transmission.

Q: What is the salvage value of a 1984 Mercedes-Benz 190E with broken transmission?
I want to sell my old Mercedes to a salvage yard and get the best deal. Everything else on the car appears to be fine. What is a fair price from the salvage yard? Do salvage yards normally tow the car for you?

A: I had a 84 completely worthless. cash out, dont spend any more money on it.

Q: How much is it worth to repair a 1994 chevy lumina with a broken transmission?

A: You can get an aftermarket or reman. installed for around $1200.00 but you’re crazy to put that much money into a car that’s only worth $1,250 in excellent condition.

Hate to say it but you should have sold it for a few hundred bucks while it was still running. Now it’s going to cost you a hundred bucks to get rid of it.

Q: Will a worn/broken Transmission mount make my car shudder or vibrate while shifting into second?
1995 dodge neon highline
125k miles
ATX

it sounds like the vibration is in the front left tire, like the tire is getting dragged or losing traction or something.

and, from a dead stop if i floor it the front end jumps.

A: Yes – the motor/transmission mounts are the first place I would look.

Q: use a washing machine with a broken transmission?
the repair man today told me it would be 250 to get the transmission replaced in our washer. the old one is making a weird sound which he said is the transmission giving out. my question is, can i keep using it until the transmission altogether dies? i hope so haha but i don’t want to flood our house!

A: Yes, but sooner or later you are gonna be stuck with a load of soaking wet clothes.=)

Q: Lawn mower transmission belt broken?
What causes a lawn mower transmission belt to break? I believe it is a John Deere.

A: Age and too heavy a load causes the belt to break. Were you mowing heavy clumps of grass? Heavy clumps of grass break a lot of mowing belts. To cut them, take small slices off of the clump with one side of the mower.

If your belt was more than five years old, then it should be replaced anyways. When you replace the belt, buy a Kevlar reinforced belt. It is more expensive, but has about twice the strength of a normal belt.

Q: would it be practical to replace a broken automatic transmission with a standard?
A little side question but the standard edition has 5 gears. Could I put a 6 gear in or would that not be possible?
The car’s a ‘93 Acura Vigor if that’ll help.

A: It first depends on the back end of the crankshaft. Some models of cars have different diameter recesses in the crankshaft to accept the pilot bushing and converting that could be close to impossible. Then you have to change the bell housing and add a clutch, plus mount and add the clutch linkage and shifting mechanism. You probably will have to have the drive shaft modified to fit the new configuration. Change the chip in the computer to reflect the change and perhaps modify the programming.

The short answer is it possible, yes. Is it practical, no. Even changing the transmission with a different transmission that bolts right up might mean one would have to modify the programming in the computer.

Q: Does a broken transmission have anything to do with a dying battery?
Its a 1994 Ford Explorer Automatic 4×4

A: If the battery is low and the alternator is not charging properly to generate at least 10+ volts,Yes it is possible. The computor needs at least 10 volts to operate.

Q: My transmission has broken suddenly. It was hit in the rear three days ago by another vehicle while in the pa?
At least I think it’s my transmission. It made no indication what so ever that something was wrong. An 04 should not lose it’s transmission out of the blue. Would the fact that it was hit hard while in the parked position possibly be the cause for the vehicle to not go forward or backwards?

A: it screwed up your parking brake in the transmission

Q: Broken transmission of honda accord 97, what are the options now??
i’ve a 97 honda acoord special edition and i’m the third owner. the car has around 180k on it. i recently got the regular service done. but this weeekend the transmission broke. the car was properly maintained, but i dont know how the transmission problem came up. the CAA (toronto) guys are suggesting to get a new transmission or a used one. but the thing is that a new one will cost the same as the car, and used transmissions dont sound good either. pls provide your suggestions, what can be done now ????

A: You can get a new transmission, or a rebuilt transmission, or even go to a salvage yard and get a used one. Difference will be cost of parts, labor will be the same for any of the options you choose. Used may be fine, or not. If it doesn’t work, take it out and bring it back and they find you another one which may or may not work. Essentially your choice.
