Q: What are some good, cheap and powerful P plate legal cars?
Hi, I’m looking to buy my first car. I’m a real car enthusiast and enjoy my cars, but with all the new Victorian P plate laws you are restricted from cars with turbos, v8’s etc. So i would like to know what are some good cheap cars that have a lot of power and still complies with the P plate laws. Yes i do realize power is dangerous on P plates, but I’m wanting to make my money worth it, so in the near future i can take it out on the track. Thanks
A: V 6 is the way to go.
Q: Where is a cheap, public race track in SoCal?
I’m looking for a cheap all day race course my friend mentioned once in southern california, I beleive possibly in Pomona. He told of it costing about 50 bucks, and you gained all day access to the track. I’m not sure if it’s a dragway or a road course, but if you know of any like this, please tell me! I’d love to get out and test my cars while having some fun!
A: If by “cheap” you mean your quoted $50? Then the main options will be about 20-30 minutes of time at an indoor go-karting track. That is “cheap” track time.
If by “cheap” you mean a reasonable rate for track time, which would be around $200-300 at an HPDE or similar event (with about 60-90 minutes of actual on track time over the day), then you will most certainly find options at the tracks around Southern CA: Willow Spings (best bet… has the main course as well as the smaller “Streets” track; HPDEs and Open Tracks are regularly run here); California Motorspeedway in Fontana (hosts some events, but the infield course here is somewhat more limited and has much more potential for a bad shunt for a novice driver); tracks like Buttonwillow or Spring Mountain are also within a day’s drive and have quite a few events between them. The websites for any of the tracks will normally have their day to day schedule listed, showing the clubs and organizations that have the track rented (and in turn, links to those events which will detail registration requirements and how to sign up).
As a note, beware of very inexpensive track time! While this often is just a bare bones track day (ie, no food or water supplied and the result of the organization getting a great rate from the track due to a cancellation or other sequence of events), it can also signify an event where the organizer has decided to not have a full paramedic crew on hand or towing services are for pay only… both major issues if you or anyone at the event should ever be in such need. Most of the time though, more costly events signify catering, free water, etc, as the main difference (which can also be very nice, especially since many tracks are somewhat in the middle of nowhere).
If you want access all day without limits, you would need to rent the entire course which is usually around $3-5k/day (you’ll also need to have appropriate insurance… and advisable, but not required, to pay for course workers as well as emergency services). The “Cheap” end of this scale would involve renting the track in the middle of the week during the winter months.

MOTORCYCLE RACING.
Q: Where can I get a cheap stock exhaust tip for a Toyota Paseo?
I just purchased a heavily riced out Toyota Paseo as a commuter car, and it has an obscenely loud exhaust on it. Frankly I think it’s embarrassing driving around in a car that screams like a race tuned track car but only has 93 horse power. Does anyone know where I can get my hands on a stock exhaust tip or whatever I would need to make this car shut the hell up on the cheap?
A: go to a local muffler shop and for under $100 bux you can probably get a very quiet muffler put in. Try a private shop not a name brand (dealer or Mineke). I will bet your catalytic converter is gone and going to a dealer will cost you $$ go to a mom and pop and under $100.
Q: What is the cheapest racecar for a dirt track?
My dad raced at the same track ( wilmot raceway in wisconsin ) and i wanted to get into racing too….what would the cheapest car be if i wanted to race hobby stock or fearless four. my dad and i and some friends would do all of the work to get it ready such as roll cage and everything else that needs to be done.
A: Probably a 4 banger would be the cheapest to run.
Q: I need a cheap (preferably free) public race track in Toronto.?
Anybody know where I can find a race track in Toronto that is open to the public? I don’t want to become a professional racer or anything, I simply want to have a bit of fun in my car on a racing track. I found some information but I can’t make much sense of it, help would be greatly appreciated. By the way, I don’t want to race anyone, I would prefer it if it was just me and the track..
Thanks!
A: Race tracks are not simply “open” to the public. They are normally owned privately. Most tracks though are regularly rented by clubs and have driver ed/open track events for their members. If you want a track all to yourself, it’s possible, but don’t expect it to be free… depending on the track, one day rental of the facilities and the required safety workers will run ~$2500-5000 (US Dollars), and still require you to provide all related insurance.
The more normal route for someone in your position would be to look into one of the previously mentioned driver ed/open track events. Cost will normally be in the $150-300 range for a day, and most clubs will provide instruction for novice drivers (which you will need if you actually want to begin to learn what driving on a track is all about). Your car will have to be in basically good shape, and you’ll need a helmet.
I believe Mosport and Shannonvill are probaby the closest tracks to Toronto, The Trackpedia entry for Mosport shows the following clubs on the calendar for future events: Porsche Club, BMW Club, Audi Club, Lotus Club, and Asphault Ventures. Any of the above should give you some possible starting points.

A: They’re all bad answers, but the lesser of the evils is the last one. The railroad “boom” of the 1850’s and 1860’s here in the US predates the air brake, and even though the brake was introduced in the 1880’s, it did not come into widespread use until after the turn of the century. However, land grants were a major push for the building of railroads.
Pullman cars were not introduced until the late 1860’s, and the “golden age” of the Pullman did not come until the 1890’s. Further, the real profit in railroading is the movement of goods rather than people. Laying new track was certainly not easy, especially in the early days of the rail industry. Even today, legal issues aside, laying track is still a major undertaking.
“Wooden tracks”, or as I take it, iron or steel rails on wooden ties, were literally unrivaled in types of construction from the end of the strap rail era until the advent of concrete sleepers in the latter half of the 20th century. Railroads are in no way cheap on start up; the payoff comes from moving huge quantities of goods over long periods with expensive but durable equipment (in effect, large start up and maintenance costs with operating costs high compared to profit when traffic is low and low compared to profit when traffic is high). This kind of traffic was not present at the beginning of the age of the railroads.
“New car connection techniques”, or Mr. Janney’s automatic coupler, existed, like the air brake, shortly after what I consider to be the rise of the industry, but, like the air brake, were not in widespread use until the 1890’s and even later in some parts of the country. The variety of track sizes, or gauges, hindered the development of railroads by making interchange between lines of different gauge (width) difficult at best.
I would go with the last choice.
Q: How do i track my 17 year old daughter…is there a cheap gps unit that i can put under the car?
A: Ummm, you never know when things will blow up in your face…..I don’t think you should do this at all. Just because you’re doing something that she may never know about doesn’t mean that it’s right. Your daughter is SEVENTEEN years old. In less than a year, she will be making her own decisions. If she is going to go out and do something, it’s not going to change much by the time she’s 18. If you don’t trust her and want to keep tabs on her, then do it in a way that she knows about. And if you tell her about this little gps idea, she’s gonna be mad. It’s not even very good anyways, not like she can’t ditch the car and go with someone else……why not attach them to the clothes she’s wearing instead?? I’d say that especially being 17 yrs old, she needs some kind of privacy and this is WAY overstepping the boundaries. If you give her no room to make mistakes on her own, she will resent you later, and a lot of lifes lessons have to be made on your own. Let her make a few. Just because she’s your daughter doesn’t mean that you can treat and do with her what you want. And just because it’s legal doesn’t mean it’s right.
Q: What’s a good track car for under $5000?
I’m looking for a car that would be easy and cheap to work on, is somewhat unique, and would be good to take to the track. I already have a 2001 Honda prelude but I’m looking for a car that I can beat up a little bit. Also I’d really like a RWD or AWD as I’m getting bored with my FWD Prelude. Some cars I’ve been looking at are the Porsche 944, early 90’s BMW 3-series, and the Mazda Miata, but I’m open to any suggestions.
Thanks
A: for the track…the cheapiest route is the miata….which is one of my likings also….but not as much as the mr2….and for the first poster…yes the silvia or 240 is good…and it comes with the sr20det or CA18det not sr18det…..but anyways its a good choice to go with also….but itll take a while for you to get used to…since you drive a honda…which has good grip and turn ins…you might want to stick to a 92-95 hatch or the miata that you spoke of…

Q: Where can I buy a cheap, yet highly reliable, tracking device/gps, for tracking someones location?
I was wondering if there is a way you could buy a tracking/gps device where you could always keep track where a person is, or car. For instance, saying a close person to you parked their car somewhere and you wondered when they would be home but they would not tell you, and they sometime like to suprise you lol.
A: try circuit city or brands mart usa but what you really need is trust
Q: Anyone know of a cheap gps tracking system for a car?
A: GPS tracking, or GPS navigation?
