Q: how much would it cost to replace the engine in a 1977 cutlass supreme oldsmobile?
whats the best engine i could get put in it?
how much would a paint job and having the interior redone on it as well? :S I want to paint it maroonish purple and have flames come up the hood with leopard print interior
A: This is the final year of the colonnade roof Cutlasses before the ‘downsizing’ in 1978.
The 350 V-8 with a 2 or 4-barrel carb would be ideal. If the car has an engine already, it can be rebuilt for anywhere between $1000-2500 or you can probably find a parts car with a decent engine. Any Chevy Monte Carlo, Cutlass, or Pontiac Grand Prix from 1974-77 would be a good candidate.
Interiors can cost as much as yo want to spend. Find a local shop which specializes in custom upholstery.
Paint jobs start at $500 for doing it yourself and can be as much as $5000, so talk with a body shop to get a better idea.
Q: Spiritually speaking is a 1977 cutlass supreme a good car (read details)?

Q: What bolt pattern does a 1977 Olds Cutlass rim have?
I am trying to find the correct bolt pattern for my 77′ Oldsmobile Cutlass. I’m trying to buy some 17″ Hot Wheels Sixty Eight rims, and EVERY wheel store does not know the bolt pattern. I’m trying to get the info INSTEAD of taking my original wheels in to get measured. THANX!!
A: 5X4 3/4″
Q: What color was 1977 cutlass solon ser.no. 3K57R7M385440?
Was purchased at bob’s chevy. in Barnsville ohio
A: You can’t find out the color of a GM car from the VIN. Find the cowl tag located on the top of the firewall on the drivers side of the car and get the paint codes off of it. Most automotive paint supply shops and body shops can tell you from these what color a car is supposed to be.

A: have you checked ebay and your local auto supply stores? if they don’t have it, you can try the newspaper classifieds. i think ebay has an option where if they dont have what you search for you can place a wanted ad. i’ve never done it, but i know you can.
Q: Will an engine from a 1986 Oldsmobile Cutlass Supreme work for my 1977 Buick Skyark. Both V6 231cu. in.?
I need my engine rebuilt but its gonna be cheaper if I buy another engine. They look the same, same 231 cu. inches and are both V6. The engine is a Buick made engine. Would it work for my 77 Skylark or no?
A: Believe both cars have computers. Not sure if 86 engine sensors can be read by older generation computer in the 77.If both motors are fuel injected, probably not workable with out putting money in to system.May be cheaper to find a good 86 motor.

Q: I already have the trans. how much should I expect to pay for the install or is it easy enuf to instal myself?
its supposed to be a plug and play transmission. its a 1977 olds cutlass supreme 3.8L
A: As long as you can get the car high enough off the ground, it is easy to do yourself. A 77 olds cutlass ( I loved mine) is a rear drive car. Tis easy. Rent a flywheel wrench/turner from your local chain parts store. Very helpful.
Disconnect the battery. Get it high enough off the ground that you can slide trannies in and out easily. Remove the U-clamps from the u-joint at the differential end(the far back.1/2″ or 7/16″ bolts). Wrap a plastic bag or something tightly and securely around the output shaft to keep the fluid from dribbling out all over everything. Disconnect the shift linkage. It may be a cable, but if memory serves, it is column shifted so it will be linkage. This may be a 1/2″ nut, but is most likely just a cotter pin. Pull the speedo cable gear(3/8 bolt). There may be a vacuum modulator. If so, remove the vacuum line. Remove the front inspection cover between the bell housing and engine oil pan(3/8″). Get something to support the tailshaft of the trans. Remove the starter(3 5/8″ or 9/16″ bolts). Now remove the 4 5/8″ bolts from each side of the transmission securing it to the (bottom 2) block and (top 2) head. Wiggle the dipstick tube out and put it somewhere safe. Now it is a matter of muscle to separate the trans from the engine. You may use something like a prybar to get it to start separating. Straight back about a couple inches and down. It isn’t light, so be careful. Now remove the four bolts that hold the torque converter to the flex plate. If you have a low profile tranny jack, you can remove the four bolts from the torque converter right after removing the inspection plate. Reverse the instructions to replace the rebuilt unit.

Q: Should I get a cafe Racer?
I am 16 years old and live in a small town by the west coast… I have currently driven for almost a year (I know, I’ve only been legally doing it for 6 months… that’s not the issue.) with two different scooters. First I have my own 200cc scooter and I’ve driven my dad’s 500cc huge cruiser-type scooter for a while now and have recently gotten a PERFECT opportunity to buy a 1977 yamaha xs750 that’s been modded into a cafe racer. It is probably one of the prettiest bike I’ve ever seen and I really want it, but My family is conerned that it is “too powerful” for me and “dangerous” and, of course, that I will “kill myself on it.” but my question is, if I have proven a safe driver on two scooters (one being massive and hard to handle as it is) and on my car (1987 cutlass supreme Broughum) and I think I can handle it by starting out slowly and getting used to the bigger engine, but other than that I see no huge challenge that will cripple me on a back as humble as this xs750… (and yes, I know how to ride an actual motorcycle… shifting no probs.)
A: My friend told me this: you are a good driver when you log 100,000miles. I guess with a 3:1 rule for bikes it would be 33,333miles. So no, you are not an experienced driver and/or rider.
On the other hand it won’t mean you will kill yourself right away. It will probably take a few friends to talk you into racing someone before that happens.
